CHILLIWACK GOLF CLUB'S JAKE SCARROW WINS PGA of BC CHAMPIONSHIP
Chilliwack Golf Club’s Jake Scarrow staked out an early lead with a phenomenal front nine and held on for a one-stroke victory in the TaylorMade Golf & adidas Golf PGA of BC Championship presented by Axis Insurance Group on Tuesday at Rivershore Golf Links.

Scarrow’s 30 strokes on the outward nine gave him an edge on the field that he would never relinquish, as the 24-year-old’s tournament-low 65 in the final round left him at 8-under-par for the 36-hole championship, one shot better than Nate Ollis (Cordova Bay Golf Course).

Zach Olson (Chilliwack Golf Club) finished in third place at 5-under, while four-time PGA of BC Champion Bryn Parry (Seymour Creek Golf Centre) placed fourth at 4-under. Three players – Kevin Stinson (Cheam Mountain Golf Course), Max Cohen (Langley Golf Academy) and Brett Burgeson (Breaking Par Golf Academy) – tied for fifth place at 3-under.

Rivershore Golf Links was hosting its fourth PGA of BC Championship and once again served up an exciting finish along the banks of the South Thompson River. The PGA of BC thanks Executive Professional Kevin Oates, Head Professional Kate Weir and the entire team of staff and volunteers from the club’s membership for their outstanding hospitality in hosting the event.

The Association also thanks longtime title sponsors TaylorMade Golf and adidas Golf for their support and on-site presence at the tournament, and presenting sponsors at the Axis Insurance Group for their continued patronage of the championship.
EXHIBITOR REGISTRATION REMINDER: PGA of BC BUYING SHOW
Prospective exhibitors are encouraged to register now to join us at the 2021 PGA of BC Buying Show, which will be conducted in a virtual format on Oct. 13-14.

As British Columbia’s premier golf-merchandise buying show, this event will once again provide a forum for golf-industry suppliers and service providers to establish meaningful connections with PGA of BC Professionals, facilities and other retailers in a one-stop shop setting.

Although much consideration has been given to the format of this year's event, after assessing all possibilities, the Association has determined that a virtual show is the best option to ensure a successful event that meets the needs of both exhibitors and attendees alike. Following positive feedback regarding the 2020 Buying Show and with enhancements coming to the event platform, the PGA of BC is looking forward to another successful virtual gathering in 2021.

The registration rate for an exhibitor booth is $350 plus GST. Exhibitor registrations will be accepted until Sept. 30.

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- RYAN STUGIS
Apprentice Professional, GolfTEC Kelowna

PGA of Canada member since: 2010

At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
I first started working at Sandpiper Golf Club for Ted Swaine.

What is the most rewarding part about being a member of the PGA of BC?
I've always loved helping players improve, being a full-time coach gives me a great ability to do that. I am very happy being a golf coach, it is wicked having players telling you about their successes and working the puzzle of what went wrong on the tough days together.

What is your favourite golf course in British Columbia, and why?
Sandpiper or Seymour Golf & Country Club. Growing up playing Sandpiper got me hitting a lot of different shots and having the last few holes exposed in the wind helped me a lot. Any time I got to go out to Seymour, the course is always in such amazing shape that it was always such a treat.

What is a common misconception that golfers make about what your job entails?
That I'm going to teach them a specific way to swing the club. We will work together on how to get that player to hit their best shots, how we get there will not always be the same as another.

FACT OF THE WEEK
With his victory yesterday in the TaylorMade Golf & adidas Golf PGA of BC Championship presented by Axis Insurance Group, Jake Scarrow became just the second player to win the provincial crown after first winning the PGA of BC Tournament of Champions as an amateur.

As pictured here, Scarrow captured the TOC in 2018 at Tobiano Golf Course alongside Matt Palsenbarg (Point Grey Golf & Country Club) when both represented The Tour LAB @ Northview. Previously, the only amateur TOC winner to later win the PGA of BC Championship was Greg Machtaler, who won the team event for Summerland Golf & Country Club with Bryan Hart in 2006 and later claimed a PGA of BC Championship win in 2013.
