McDONALD LEADS PDP THROUGH JULY
Fairview Mountain Golf Club Executive Professional Brian McDonald finds himself in a familiar spot as he takes the lead in the 2022 PGA of BC Professional Development Program (PDP) through July.

The 2021 PDP Order of Merit winner, McDonald finds himself alone atop the standings with 51 points after a busy July that included participation in the PGA Championship of Canada, an Interior Regional tour event, and the Golfathon for ALS.

Making a five-spot jump into a tie for second place is 2021 Jock McKinnon PGA of BC Apprentice Professional of the Year, Callum Ashby of Highland Pacific Golf. Through his participation in the Golfathon for ALS and hosting three Canucks Junior Golf Week camps, Ashby gained twelve points in the last 30-days to trail McDonald by just two points. Lenny Cyr (Seymour Golf & Country Club) also finds himself in a tie for second place at 49 points, while Ryan Tofani (Chilliwack Golf Club), and Wes Driessen (Sandpiper Golf Course) round out the top five at 48 points apiece.

BIRDIES & BUCKETS WIN AT SHUSWAP LAKE IN RETURN OF JACK McLAUGHLIN MEMORIAL PRO-JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY COBRA PUMA GOLF
The Surrey-based Birdies & Buckets Family Golf Centre team consisting of Head Teaching Professional Jeff Hallborg and juniors Gavin Giesbrecht, Nathan Freer, and Levi Hallborg blistered Shuswap Lakes Golf Course last Friday, taking home their first Jack McLaughlin Memorial trophy.

The popular event made its return after a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, last hosted in 2019 at Highland Pacific Golf in Victoria, BC. The tournament’s unique format comprises teams of one PGA of BC Professional and three juniors from the same facility in an 18-hole, Two-Net Best Ball format.

Birdies & Buckets Family Golf Centre claimed victory at 14-under par, two strokes better than Andrew Bentley, Bryden Cavanagh, Nate Turner, and Aaron Cattermole representing Kamloops Golf & Country Club, and the all junior girls team of Malania Sidhu, Lauren Nedo, Meera Miunhas representing The Vancouver Golf Club led by Professional Jordan Rourke.

All participating juniors enjoyed their day, each having taken home a piece of the $8,500+ retail prize table, furnished mostly of COBRA PUMA Golf products. Additionally, participants also received valuable tee gifts representative of both brands.

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- EVAN DYKI
Apprentice Professional, Royal Colwood Golf Club

At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
A brand new 27 hole golf course called The Quarry in Northeast Edmonton under Taylor Scinski and Daniel Philpott. I spent my first season there ringing in green fees in a temporary trailer while the clubhouse was under construction.

What is the most rewarding part about being a member of the PGA of BC?
Being immediately injected into a community of great professionals. You sure know how to make a guy feel welcome.

What is your most cherished golf memory?
Playing The Old Course at St. Andrews with my Dad. That’s a special memory we’ll both hang on to for a very long time.

If you had to share one piece of advice with a new member of our Association, what would it be?
Trust your instincts and pursue what makes you and others happy. Be helpful always, and accept great opportunities when they come your way.
