Head Professional, Storey Creek Golf Club
PGA of Canada member since: 2001
At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
I sold my first set of clubs at the age of 13! My dad was Head Professional at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club, a links course in England, and I used to hang out and annoy his assistants all day, everyday.
Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Dale Schienbein is the easy answer. Although I'd been in the industry for a decade before I met Dale, he turned my world upside down when I joined his crew at Seymour. He improved my insight into every single aspect of the job.
What is your most cherished golf memory?
I've shot final round 65s to win golf tournaments, but after a bad opening round (79) in The Northern Open at Royal Aberdeen I shot 66 to make the cut by one. This was a course record for a short time. That was pretty cool.
If you had to share one piece of advice with a new member of our Association, what would it be?
This piece of advice came from Day 1 with Dale at Seymour: Do everything better than it has ever been done before. That has stayed with me for over 20 years. I think if new members can passionately improve themselves, their students and the business, then they're going places.
