Members are reminded that the PGA of BC's 2021 Education Series presented by Foresight Sports Canada picks up once more on Tuesday, Feb. 23.

Jeff Palmer (Highland Pacific Golf, pictured) will lead a presentation titled "Values-based Approaches to Leadership," opening a dialogue on identifying your core values -- and finding common values among your team -- to create synergy and high performance.

Click here for more information and a registration link for next Thursday's session, or view all remaining workshops and registration information via the PGA of BC’s Schedule of Events page. Registered participants will receive information on joining the session the day prior to the event.

Member registration for individual sessions is priced at $10 (plus GST) each. The Education Series Pass is now available at the reduced price of $50 (plus GST), a member-exclusive offer granting access to all five remaining sessions with a single registration. Non-members are welcome to attend any workshop of the series, with a reference from a Class “A” Professional, for $20 (plus GST).

Please note that registration fees do not include recorded sessions posted to the Education Series Archive. Registration for all individual sessions closes at 12:00 p.m. PT the day prior.

The PGA of BC also thanks Canadian Golf Hall of Fame member Gail Graham, PGA of Alberta Professionals Tiffany Gordon and Judy Forshner, and the PGA of BC's own Cindy Soukoroff (St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino) for participating in this afternoon's panel discussion titled "Industry Empowerment: Impacts & Experiences for Women Working in Golf." The important conversations that emerged out of today's session were extremely valuable for all attendees and we appreciate the time and insights shared by our panelists.

We look forward to seeing you online again next Tuesday.

GOLFEXPO SEEKING VIDEO SUBMISSIONS FROM PGA of BC MEMBERS
PGA of BC members are reminded that the British Columbia GOLFEXPO is providing an opportunity to submit pre-recorded videos featuring instruction tips and/or lessons for the event, which is being held online Feb. 26-28.

Videos will be included as part of the event's PGA of BC Seminar Stage and/or the BC GOLFEXPO YouTube Channel. They will also be promoted through the BC GOLFEXPO’s social-media channels and e-newsletter database.

Videos must be in a downloadable format (Google Drive or Dropbox preferred). Each video can include promotion and call to action (website, email address, phone number) of your instruction business in the video. Videos can range from 5 minutes up to 30 minutes each.

The BC GOLFEXPO will determine how to best use each video to promote them to consumers attending the BC GOLFEXPO Online. The BC GOLFEXPO Online is no charge to consumers and will be a great opportunity to promote your golf instruction business. Members submitting videos can also receive PDP credit.

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- ADAM BLAIR
(The PGA of BC Professional Spotlight is a new feature that will appear weekly in E-News, highlighting a different member each week. These features are based upon responses submitted to the PGA of BC's member profile questionnaire, which all members are welcome to complete. A selection of responses will appear in this space, while full responses can be viewed via the member's PGA of BC website profile linked below.

We are proud to debut this recurring item by profiling new PGA of BC President Adam Blair.)

Executive Professional, Talking Rock Golf Course

PGA of Canada member since: 2001

Why did you become a PGA of Canada Professional?
I always wanted a career in hospitality and was fortunate to get a job in high school at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club. I fell in love with golf and knew that my passion for service and sports would be fulfilled as a Professional.

Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
It is hard to name just one. Murray Blair, Miles Mortensen and Jeff Ciecko were all instrumental in my early growth. I have been fortunate to have a vast network of professionals in our province to lean on for all aspects of advice.

If you could give one piece of advice to a new member of our Association, what would it be?
Create a vast network of professionals. There are some many incredibly smart people in our association. Sit and listen. The best advice I ever had was if you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room. Education is key. Always be growing your knowledge.
FACT OF THE WEEK
With this past Tuesday marking the 25th anniversary of the release of Happy Gilmore, it's a good time to reminisce about the local connections to the iconic golf film.

Filming locations included a number of PGA of BC-affiliated facilities, such as Swan-E-Set Bay Country Club, Riverway Golf Course and Furry Creek Golf & Country Club.

As well, the old William Thompson Trophy awarded to each year's PGA of BC Champion makes a cameo appearance as the trophy for the Waterbury Open, the tournament Happy wins in his competitive debut. Pictured at left is Lindsay Bernakevitch (Victoria Golf Club) receiving the trophy in 2011.

This version of the William Thompson Trophy was last awarded to 2015 PGA of BC Champion Bryn Parry (Seymour Creek Golf Centre) and was replaced with a new iteration. The trophy that appeared in the film remains on permanent display in the PGA of BC office.
