RICHMOND & VICTORIA EDUCATION SERIES EVENTS SHIFTING ONLINE
|
Although these events are technically permissible to go forward under the current Provincial Health Order, it has become apparent that accommodating and safeguarding all prospective attendees, presenters and staff at our host facilities poses a significant challenge. However, the shift to a virtual format will hopefully make these gatherings accessible to more member Professionals across the province.
These events will proceed online with the same lineup of featured presenters on a revised schedule, with the program running approximately 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PST on both dates.
Please note that the registration fee for each event will be adjusted to $19 (plus GST). All individuals who had previously registered for either Jan. 18 or Feb. 1 will be granted access to the virtual sessions on both dates with no action required.
These two now-online gatherings will be treated as standalone events just as if they were to be held in person as originally scheduled. As such, individual registrations are required for these events unless you had already registered for one of the in-person events as noted above. These events are also separate from those comprising the Virtual Education Series that kicked off earlier today with Colby Johannson's presentation.
Please contact the administration team if you are uncertain about your registration status for any upcoming Education Series event. Click below to access the PGA of BC Schedule of Events and view more information or register for any of our upcoming education programming.

GREAT START TO EDUCATION SEASON WITH COLBY JOHANNSON
|
The PGA of BC extends its thanks to Colby Johannson, co-founder of our Preferred Partners at Par Six Golf (P6R Golf), for kicking off the Association's 2022 education programming with Wednesday morning's session focused on social media.
Johannson's informative, hour-long session provided great strategies for social-media success to more than 120 attendees, taking pages from the playbook that has helped make P6R Golf a leader in digital golf content and marketing.
This webinar marked the first installment of the PGA of BC's Virtual Education Series. All who are registered for a Virtual Education Series Pass, including those unable to join us for today's live session, will have access to a recorded replay for a limited time. Details on replay access will be included in the post-event email delivered to all passholders, which will also include copies of Johannson's presentation slides and a social-media workbook.
As well, those who have yet to register for the Virtual Education Series Pass may still do so by clicking below, and will also receive access to the recorded replay. The Series Pass will also provide access to the sessions scheduled with Manuel Osborne-Paradis on Feb. 28, with Three & Jackie Carpenter on March 9, and additional content to be announced in the near future.

DECLARATIONS FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION DUE BY FRIDAY
|
The PGA of BC Board of Directors invites qualified members interested in serving on the Board of Directors to submit their names to run in this month's upcoming election for open positions.
In the coming vote, there will be four (4) vacant positions on the Board. Each member elected will serve a two-year term. Due to the Board's current composition, at least one of the directors elected must be a representative of the Vancouver Island region.
All candidates must be Class "A" Professionals who are members in good standing with the PGA of Canada to be eligible to run in the election. Click here to review the expectations and requirements of board directors.
Prospective candidates are asked to submit a brief biography and write-up detailing why they feel they are qualified for a position on the PGA of BC Board of Directors. Submissions may not exceed 200 words and may not include any supplementary documents or files -- these are firm requirements that will be strictly enforced. Candidates' submissions will be made available online to voting members on the election ballot. Please note that each candidate's Professional Development Program point total and ranking in the PDP Order of Merit will be included with their personal info on the ballot.
To submit your name for consideration, please send an email with your written submission no later than Friday, Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. PT to Executive Director Donald Miyazaki at donald@pgabc.org. Confirmation will be sent to candidates upon receipt of application.
Once a list of candidates has been compiled, the membership will have an opportunity to vote in the online election for a period of one (1) week. Please note that, contrary to previous communications, the voting period will run from Jan. 17-24. Due to regional quota considerations, the Vancouver Island-based candidate receiving the most votes will be guaranteed one of the four open positions regardless of their finish in the overall vote totals.

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- PATRICK LAGO
|
Head Teaching Professional, Lago Golf Academy
PGA of Canada member since: 2007
What career path led you to where you are today?
My goal was the originally be a Head Professional at a world-class golf facility. Working at some of the top golf facilities in the country as an Assistant professional, I had one thing that was missing from my resume, golf instruction. So I decided to get at job teaching golf... and I have never looked back.
Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Bob Beauchemin; Director of Instruction at Oakdale Golf and Country Club in Toronto. Bob was the first person to teach me about the mechanics and proper techniques of the golf swing. He helped me understand the cause and effect of the swing.
Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Passing my PAT, getting my Class "A" certification, starting my own business.
What is a common misconception that golfers make about what your job entails?
You must get tired of teaching the same thing over and over again. Every student that comes in has their own specific tendencies and concepts of how to swing a golf club, and what might work for one student will not always work for another. Their physical limitations and past injuries can greatly influence their overall swing techniques. Also, don't forget about the six inches between their ears.
