POLLS OPEN IN PGA of BC BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION
The PGA of BC Board of Directors election is on now, and members have until Monday to submit their votes.

There are four (4) positions available, each of which will consist of a two-year term, expiring at the 2022 Annual General Meeting.
 
Due to the Board's current composition, one (1) position in this election must be filled by a candidate representing the Vancouver Island region. As such, the candidate from this region receiving the highest number of votes will be elected to one of the board vacancies, regardless of their standing in overall vote totals. The remaining three (3) positions will be assumed by the candidates receiving the highest number of votes, regardless of the region in which they are based. 

Your PGA of Canada membership number will be verified before your vote is recorded. Please note that all PGA of BC membership categories may vote for positions on the Board of Directors, including Apprentice Professionals. To be eligible to cast a ballot, voters must be members in good standing. Voter confidentiality will be strictly maintained.

REGISTER NOW FOR PGA of BC SPRING EDUCATION SEMINAR
Members are reminded that registration is open now for the 2020 PGA of BC Spring Education Seminar, which returns to Tsawwassen Springs on Feb. 10-11.

Jeff Smith , PGA Tour coach and founder of online instruction platform Course Kings, will open the seminar, while  Will Robins , an award-winning PGA Professional and developer of the RGX coach-training program, will close out the schedule on Day 2. As well, the Association is proud to be welcoming Global Golf Advisors director  George Pinches  and longtime auto-industry executive and business coach  Glen Daman  of 10th Degree Consulting Inc. as presenters for the PGA of BC’s signature professional-development event.

DOUG TITTERINGTON NAMED PGA of BC MEMBERSHIP & EVENTS MANAGER
The PGA of BC administration team is pleased to introduce Apprentice Professional Doug Titterington as the Association’s new Membership & Events Manager.

The 28-year-old comes to the administration team from Northview Golf & Country Club, where he has spent the past three years as an instructor and pro-shop supervisor on the Surrey facility’s Professional staff. Titterington already had many years’ experience in British Columbia’s golf industry prior to joining the PGA of Canada in 2017. He is a 2019 graduate of the Professional Golf Management program at Ontario’s Humber College.

Titterington will assume the role as of Jan. 27.

Prior to his tenure at Northview and joining the PGA of Canada, Titterington spent several years working in pro shops at Pitt Meadows Golf Club and Eaglequest Golf Centre at Coquitlam. Through these positions, Titterington has played key roles in the execution of tournaments, events and other club operations. As an Association member working towards his Class “A” status, Titterington’s first-hand knowledge of the PGA of Canada Training Academy will also be a valuable asset in assisting and providing support to fellow Apprentice Professionals.

NOTICE OF 2020 PGA of BC ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Professional Golfers’ Association of British Columbia will be held on Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Tsawwassen Springs Golf, 5133 Springs Blvd, Tsawwassen, BC, V4M 0A6, for the following purposes:

  1. To receive the financial statements of the Association for the period ended November 30, 2019, and the auditor’s report thereon;
  2. To appoint auditors for the ensuing year, and to authorize the directors to fix their remuneration;
  3. To pass motion to vote in new directors of the Association;
  4. To approve all acts, deeds and proceedings of the directors since the last Annual General Meeting;
  5. To transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting or any adjournment thereof.

LAST CHANCE TO APPLY FOR PGA of CANADA FOUNDATION BURSARY
​​​​​​​ Each year, the PGA of Canada Foundation awards bursaries to assist, encourage and promote the attainment of professional development opportunities.
 
Bursary applications can be submitted for any professional development opportunities you may have completed last year.
 
These bursaries are in the amount of $500 each, with a maximum of 20 awarded nationwide annually. They are available to all members, contingent upon a Golf Professional completing one or more professional development opportunities in 2019.
 
Please note that members still working towards their Class "A" designation may not apply for a bursary to offset the cost of PGA of Canada Training Academy courses or programs. There are no restrictions for Class "A" members.

WORLD HANDICAP CERTIFICATION SEMINARS OFFERED
British Columbia Golf is offering two upcoming World Handicap System (WHS) certification seminars in the Lower Mainland.

With the WHS taking effect at the beginning of this year, these seminars provide a detailed look at the new system and are appropriate for facility staff and volunteers involved in handicapping at the club level. Golf clubs are advised that one person from each club needs to certify under WHS, with an exam administered to achieve certification.

Seminars will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pitt Meadows Golf Club on Jan. 31 and at Langara Golf Course on Feb. 1. The Langara event is limited to the first 50 registrants. The seminar registration fee is $25, which includes lunch.

Members are advised that a PGA of BC Professional has reported the theft of a launch monitor from their Victoria home earlier this week.

The missing unit is a Foresight Sports GC2 in its original hard carrying case. Members and facilities are encouraged to exercise caution if approached with any private-sale offers on this particular model.

Anyone with reason to believe they may have been offered the stolen unit for sale or otherwise encountered it is asked to contact the PGA of BC administration office to provide that information to the victim.
