PGA of BC NAMES TOP 100 GOLF PROFESSIONALS OF 2018
On Tuesday, we were proud to reveal our list of the Top 100 Golf Professionals of 2018, as determined by the PGA of BC Professional Development Program (PDP) Order of Merit presented by Sunice & Bobby Jones .

The PGA of British Columbia Professional Development Program (PDP) is designed to acknowledge members who have demonstrated tremendous contributions to the Association, the province's golf industry and, most importantly, themselves. Through participation in continuing education, competitions, the PGA of BC Awards program, annual Buying Show and various forms of volunteerism, the PDP provides an equal avenue to showcase strengths of the diverse membership.

Congratulations to all Professionals comprising this year's Top 100 list, to Order of Merit winner Matthew Palsenbarg (The Tour LAB @ Northview) and to all members who participated in this year's PDP.

Click here to view our official Top 100 announcement, with access to the full list and final 2018 PDP standings.

We are also pleased to announce that Sunice and Bobby Jones have committed to continuing their generous support of the PDP for the coming year.

Please note that the points race for 2019 is already underway. Point requisitions are now being accepted for this year's Order of Merit at www.pgabc.org/pdp . Members are reminded that self-submissions require supporting documentation to be emailed to [email protected] for consideration.
THREE PGA of BC MEMBERS NAMED PGA of CANADA AWARD WINNERS
Three PGA of BC members were announced as 2018 national award winners by the PGA of Canada on Dec. 20 and will formally be recognized by the Association later this month.

Pictured from left, Greg Pool (Capilano Golf & Country Club) was selected as the Stan Leonard Class "A" Professional of the Year, Jason Giesbrecht (Royal Colwood Golf Club) captured the Tex Noble Professional Development Award, and Jennifer Greggain (Chilliwack Golf Club) was named the Jack McLaughlin Junior Leader of the Year.

All three were selected for their respective honours by a national committee and were considered after receiving corresponding provincial awards from the PGA of BC in October.

Congratulations to Greg, Jason and Jennifer on these prestigious and well-deserved acknowledgements. All three will be honoured on Jan. 24 in Orlando during PGA of Canada Night festivities at the PGA Merchandise Show.
REGISTER NOW FOR SPRING EDUCATION SEMINAR
The 2019 PGA of BC Spring Education Seminar returns to Tsawwassen Springs Golf Course on Feb. 11-12 with a superb lineup of expert presenters covering a variety of topics relevant to all Golf Professionals.

Acclaimed instructors Gabriel Hjertstedt and Joseph Mayo will headline the annual event, conducting half-day presentations to close out the schedule on Day 1 and 2, respectively. Other featured presenters include Victoria-based chiropractor Dr. Stuart Love , who works closely with many top PGA Tour players; Tom Mayenknecht of Vancouver-based brand-builders Embematica and TSN Radio's "The Sport Market"; and Golf Canada rules guru Adam Helmer looking at the changes to the Rules of Golf now in effect. As well, Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club Head Professional Alan Palmer and father Denzil Palmer , who served more than 25 years as GM at Royal Montreal Golf Club, will make a joint presentation on the evolution of premier golf facilities.

Our signature education gathering each year, the seminar also represents a key opportunity to earn points toward the Professional Development Program Order of Merit presented by Sunice & Bobby Jones. Members will receive eight (8) PDP points for each day they attend and sign in at seminar registration. The Top 100 Golf Professionals of 2018 list featured 85 members who attended at least one day of the seminar last year.

Registration is open now until Jan. 25. Please click below to access the full schedule, registration link and more information about each speaker and the content of their presentations. We hope to see you at Tsawwassen Springs for two great days of learning next month.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS SEEKS INTEREST IN OPEN BOARD POSITIONS
The PGA of BC Board of Directors invites qualified members interested in serving on the Board of Directors to submit their names for consideration.

In the coming election, there will be six (6) vacant positions on the Board. Four (4) of these positions will be two-year, non-renewable terms; the remaining two (2) will be one-year, non-renewable terms. Due to the Board's current composition, at least one (1) of the two-year term positions must be assumed by a member based in the Vancouver Island region, and one (1) must be assumed by a member eligible to serve as Assistants' Representative (Class "A" or Teaching Professional).

All candidates must be Class "A" Professionals who are members in good standing with the PGA of Canada to be considered. Click below for a list of requirements and expectations of an Association board member.

Candidates will be asked to submit a brief biography and write-up detailing why they wish to run for a position on the PGA of BC Board. Submissions of the above may not exceed 250 words -- this is a firm requirement that will be strictly enforced. Candidates' submissions will be made available to voting members online. New for 2019, please note that each candidate's Professional Development Program point total and ranking in the PDP Order of Merit will be included with their personal info on the ballot.

Once a list of candidates has been compiled, the membership will have the opportunity to vote in the online election for a period of one (1) week. The Vancouver Island candidate and the Assistants' Representative-eligible candidate receiving the most votes, regardless of overall position, will automatically earn two-year terms to fulfill the required quotas. A single individual could potentially fill both quota positions. The remaining two-year term positions will be awarded accordingly to those candidates otherwise receiving the highest vote totals. The one-year terms will be offered to the candidates otherwise receiving the next-highest vote totals.

To submit your name for consideration, please send an email with your biography no later than Friday, Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. PT  to Executive Director Donald Miyazaki at  [email protected] . Confirmation will be sent to candidates upon receipt of application. Please forward any other inquiries regarding the board positions or election to Donald as well.
