PGA OF BC NAMES TOP 100 GOLF PROFESSIONALS OF 2022
The PGA of BC is proud to recognize its Top 100 Golf Professionals of 2022, as determined by the Association’s Professional Development Program (PDP) Order of Merit presented by Sunice & Bobby Jones.

Brian McDonald, Executive Professional at Fairview Mountain Golf Club, has topped the 2022 PDP Order of Merit for a second consecutive year, becoming the first two-time winner of the program. McDonald amassed 109 points over the course of the year, topping this year’s standings by 11-points. 

2022 PGA of Canada Pat Fletcher Retailer of the Year recipient and Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club Head Professional Ashley Zibrik finished runner-up in this year’s standings, having accumulated 98 points throughout 2022. Fairview Mountain Golf Club Head Professional Rob Tadey and 2022 Dick Munn Golf Professional of the Year Nathan Grieve (Talking Rock Golf Course) finished in a tie for third place at 97 points, just a single-point back of Zibrik.

2023 PGA OF BC ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING SET FOR FEBRUARY 6th
The Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Professional Golfers’ Association of British Columbia (the “Association”) will be held on Monday February 6, 2023, beginning at 4:15 pm at Tsawwassen Springs Golf, 5133 Springs Blvd, Tsawwassen, BC V4M 0A6, for the following purposes:

  1. To receive the financial statements of the Association for the period ended November 30, 2022, and the auditor’s report thereon;
  2. To appoint auditors for the ensuing year, and to authorize the directors to fix their remuneration;
  3. To pass motion to vote in new directors of the Association;
  4. To approve all acts, deeds and proceedings of the directors since the last Annual General Meeting;
  5. To transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting or any adjournment thereof.

REGISTRATION FOR LOWER MAINLAND EDUCATION SERIES CLOSES TODAY
Vancouver's Marine Drive Golf Club will be the host facility for the first leg of the 2023 PGA of BC Education Series presented by Foresight Sports Canada.

Taking place on January 17th and expanding upon the past success of regional in-person events, the Lower Mainland's regional Education Series is expected to gather dozens of members throughout the province at an opportune time for PGA Professionals to learn and network.

The event is expected to run from 10am-2pm and feature the following speakers and topics:
  • Building a Successful Teaching Business in the Digital World - Nathan Leonhardt, Head Teaching Professional, Par-Tee Golf
  • Strength Training for Golf - Groundwork Athletics
  • How Strong Leadership Builds Exceptional Workplace Culture - Dave Mowat, Former CEO of Vancouver City Savings Credit Union and ATB Financial, Chair of the Alberta Royalty Review Panel, and current Telus Board Member

CALL FOR 2023 BOARD ELECTION CANDIDATES CLOSES TOMORROW
The PGA of BC Board of Directors invites qualified members interested in serving on the Board of Directors to submit their names to run in this month's upcoming election for open positions. 
 
In the coming vote, there will be four (4) vacant positions on the Board. Each member elected will serve a two-year term. Due to the Board's current composition, at least one of the directors elected must be a representative of the Vancouver Island region.
 
All candidates must be Class "A" Professionals who are members in good standing with the PGA of Canada to be eligible to run in the election. 
 
To submit your name for consideration, please send an email with your written submission no later than Friday January 13th at 4 p.m. PT to donald@pgabc.org. Confirmation will be sent to candidates upon receipt of application.

2023 SPRING EDUCATION SEMINAR LINE-UP RELEASED
The PGA of BC is proud to announce the full line-up and itinerary of the 2023 Spring Education Seminar taking place February 6-7 at Tsawwassen Springs Golf.

Joe Roberts, the ‘Skid Row CEO’ who overcame homelessness and addiction to go on to lead a successful Vancouver multimedia company, will be among the keynote speakers of the event.

Other featured speakers include PGA Tour Putting Consultant & Odyssey Master Putting Instructor Stephen Sweeney. Sweeney has worked with PGA Tour stars like Shane Lowry, Collin Morikawa and Joaquin Niemann and will be giving a lesson on the intricacies of the short game. In addition, Olympians Jennifer Jones and Brent Laing will share stories from their curling careers and will speak to what it takes to be truly world class in any endeavour.

PGA OF BC WELCOMES GRAHAM ABRAHAM TO ADMINISTRATION TEAM
Following an extensive search process, the PGA of British Columbia is proud to welcome Graham Abraham as the Association’s Communications & Marketing Manager.

Abraham is a graduate of the University of Victoria and Langara College, and brings previous experience as a reporter for Northwest Sports Desk and Postmedia. Originally from Kamloops, BC, he spent time working within the golf operation at Mount Paul Golf Course where he gained a love for the sport and its camaraderie. Driven by his passion for athletics and his experience in media, Abraham leapt at the opportunity to join the PGA of BC and is excited to be back in the golf industry.

In his role, Abraham will be responsible for all Association communications matters, including keeping the industry up to date through the PGA of BC’s website, social media platforms and weekly E-News service while documenting tournaments and events.

ASHLEY ZIBRIK HONOURED AS PGA OF CANADA RETAILER OF THE YEAR
Congratulations to Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club Head Professional Ashley Zibrik who was honoured last month with the PGA of Canada's 2022 Pat Fletcher Retailer of the Year Award.

Zibrik was eligible as a finalist for this award as a result of Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club's recognition as the 2022 PGA of BC Ben Colk Golf Shop of the Year Award. She was amongst eleven other individuals recognized by the National Office through online streams in the month of December announcing National Award winners. All recipients of awards will be honoured later this month at Canada Night, held in conjunction with the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida.
