INSTRUCTOR OF BEGINNER GOLFERS WORKSHOPS ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS
Apprentice Professionals are advised that four Instructor of Beginner Golfers workshops have been scheduled for late summer and early fall in British Columbia and registrations are now being accepted.

Instructor of Beginner Golfers is a first-year required course for Apprentice Professionals in the PGA of Canada Training Academy. First-year deadlines fall on Dec. 1 of the year after which an Apprentice met their Playing Ability Test requirements. As this workshop was not offered in 2020 due to public-health concerns, all who became Apprentice Professionals in 2019 or 2020 must complete Instructor of Beginner Golfers this year if they have not already done so; those who passed their PAT in 2021 have until Dec. 1, 2022 to meet the requirements.

Each of the three-day workshops will be administered by PGA of BC Professional Doug Hastie, with sessions running 8:30 a.m. to 5: 00 p.m. daily.

The available workshops are as follows:
  • Sept. 13-15 at The Okanagan Golf Club
  • Sept. 29-Oct. 1 at Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club
  • Oct. 4-6 at Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club
  • Oct. 16-18 at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club

Click below to access the PGA of Canada Education Schedule, which includes full details and registration links for the sessions listed above, and for other workshops being offered elsewhere in Canada.

RECENT RESULTS
Fresh off his victory in the PGA of BC Seniors' Championship last week, Rob Anderson (Kelowna Golf & Country Club, pictured) topped another leaderboard Monday in Interior PGA Tour play at Talking Rock Golf Course.

Anderson birdied each of the last three holes to finish with a 1-under 71 and earn a two-stroke victory over three players. He pocketed $500 for first place. Talking Rock's own Nathan Grieve and Lionel Taylor were joined by Keith Vandenbrink (Vernon Golf & Country Club) in shooting 73 for a three-way share of second, with each player taking home $250.
Kevin Stinson (Cheam Mountain Golf Course, pictured) earned his third consecutive regional tour win on Monday, backing up his IPGA victory at Kamloops Golf & Country Club two weeks ago and T1 finish last month at Meadow Gardens Golf Club with a triumph on the G&G Tour at Sandpiper Golf Club.

Four of Stinson's six birdies came on a four-hole stretch starting at the par-5 13th, helping him to a 5-under 67 and a one-stroke victory worth $600. Cory Renfrew (Modern Golf Vancouver) took runner-up honours after a 68, earning a $525 payout. Michael Caan (Riverway Golf Course) had the only other round under par on the tough Sandpiper setup, carding a 71 for third place and $500.
The Vancouver Island Club Pro Tour also resumed Monday with co-winners at Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community.

Ben Griffin (Uplands Golf Club, left) and Lindsay Bernakevitch (Victoria Golf Club, right) shared top spot after both turned in 2-under-par rounds of 70. Each player collected $565 for the result. Host Executive Professional Bill Kelly secured a third-place finish with an even-par 72 that was worth a $385 payday.
CONGRATULATIONS
The PGA of BC is pleased to share that Patrick Lago (Lago Golf Academy) became engaged on Saturday to Vivian Chan, his partner of nearly four years.

Patrick enlisted the help of friends to surprise Vivian in popping the question at Queen Elizabeth Park Pitch & Putt. With their friends "running late" for golf, Patrick enticed Vivian to go for a walk to kill time as they waited. While strolling through the park, they came to a bridge where their friends waited to capture the moment on camera as Patrick got down on one knee to ask for Vivian's hand in marriage.

The PGA of BC extends its best wishes to Patrick and Vivian on their future together!

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- ANDREW RIPLEY
Class "A" Professional, Seymour Golf & Country Club

PGA of Canada member since: 1999

Why did you become a PGA of Canada Professional?
Couldn't have imagined a better career (for me, of course.) I wanted something in sports, number one, and I wanted it to be fun, rewarding and potentially lucrative enough to support a family. It has done all those things.

What career path led you to where you are today?
Started off with education at the Golf Academy of America, known then as the San Diego Golf Academy. From there, it was working in the best, most southerly province in Canada (to assure year-round employment), finally securing a position in the North Vancouver Deep Cove community. There was no desire to be anywhere else to raise my family.

Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Dale Schienbein, Terry Yacyshen, Mike Smedstad, Ann Carroll and Lenny Cyr. All these people have the common attributes of great Professionals: they are great with people, great intellect, great managers of people and never stop learning how to be a better Professional. Ann was my coaching guru, she was very influential in my coaching style to this day.

What are your most cherished golf memories?
Going Par-birdie on Holes 17 & 18 at TPC Sawgrass. Playing Pebble Beach for my good friend's 50th Birthday with our wives riding/observing. My two holes-in-one.
