TUBB EARNS RUNNER-UP HONOURS AT PGA CHAMPIONSHIP OF CANADA
|
PGA of BC Professional Oliver Tubb (University Golf Club, pictured at left) put on another impressive performance at last week's PGA Championship of Canada presented by TaylorMade & adidas Golf at Ontario's Whistle Bear Golf Club, coming up just short of the title.
Tubb played his way into the 16-man match-play bracket over the first two days of competition and followed that with three straight wins to reach the final. He ultimately settled for runner-up honours after a tight match with Alberta's Dustin Risdon, who prevailed 3&1. Tubb now has two second-place finishes at the event in his career and earned $7,000 for the result.
Tubb's run to the final included a semifinal victory over fellow PGA of BC member
Bryn Parry
(Seymour Creek Golf Centre, pictured at right), who defeated Alberta's Wes Heffernan in the third-place match and collected $5,000.
Kevin Stinson
(Cheam Mountain Golf Course) was the only other PGA of BC Professional to qualify for match play, bowing out in a first-round match against Alberta's Kent Fukushima. His ninth-place finish was worth $1,750.
Mark Bicknell
(Victoria Golf Club) finished among the Top 16 in stroke play but missed out on the match-play bracket in a playoff, pocketing $1,600.
