The Fairview Mountain Golf Club duo of Brian McDonald and Rob Tadey shot a 12-under-par 60 in the final round of the G&G Golf Company & Callaway Golf PGA of BC Pro-Assistant Championship on Tuesday at The Okanagan Golf Club to capture their second title in the event since 2017.

After a best-ball 66 Monday on the Bear Course, McDonald and Tadey trailed Northview Golf & Country Club's Greg Pool and Quinn Vilneff by one heading into Tuesday's scramble round on the Quail Course. Neck-and-neck with the Northview team with two holes to play, Tadey sank birdie putts on the 17th and 18th greens to lock up the victory. They became just the fourth team to win multiple Pro-Assistant titles and split the first-place prize of $2,500.

The 2020 PGA of BC Awards Celebration presented by Replay Golf Supplies & Tribal will honour this year's Regional and Provincial Recipients on Wednesday, Oct. 14. More details about this event will be made available in coming months. 

Members and member facilities are encouraged to join us for the Jack McLaughlin Memorial Junior Golf Challenge presented by COBRA PUMA Golf , which will run July 20-26 as a special event in lieu of the Pro-Junior Championship.

For nearly 30 years, the PGA of BC has celebrated the legacy of Jack McLaughlin and his significant contributions to junior golf through the Pro-Junior Championship, which sadly cannot go ahead this year. In addition to honouring McLaughlin, the Pro-Junior has represented inclusiveness in competition, with a format that allows girls and boys of all ages and ability levels to participate and contribute to their teams’ success in the event, while providing junior golfers with an opportunity to play alongside a Golf Professional.

As such, we hope to preserve the qualities of this event via the Jack McLaughlin Memorial Junior Golf Challenge. From July 20-26, junior golfers with an established handicap will be challenged to complete a 9- or 18-hole round under mock tournament conditions at their home course and submit their scorecard to their PGA of BC Professional. Net scores relative to par for each participant will be added to province-wide leaderboards to recognize the top performances recorded throughout the week.

If possible, PGA of BC Professionals are encouraged to take time out of their busy schedules to accompany participating juniors on course, assist with rulings during play and to cheer them on! There is no cost or entry fee for junior competitors, aside from any green fees that may apply at their respective facilities, and all participants will be eligible for post-event prizing through either their event performance or by random draw.

The PGA of BC thanks COBRA PUMA Golf for its support of the Jack McLaughlin Memorial Junior Golf Challenge in the absence of a 2020 Pro-Junior Championship.

The Golfathon for ALS is still going strong, with more PGA of BC facilities participating to support the ALS Society of BC over the past week and more yet to come later this season.

On July 2, Cindy Soukoroff, Doug Schneider (both pictured) and Mike Pearson all took on the Golfathon at St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino, combining to play 144 holes. Adding to the challenge, Soukoroff walked 54 of her 72 holes on the Cranbook layout.

On Saturday, it was Crown Isle Golf Resort & Community playing host to the Golfathon for ALS. Rod Prieto, Brian Wise and Mark Valliere each completed 90 holes while garnering donations along the way.

Further Golfathons for ALS are in the planning stages at Richmond Country Club, Cowichan Golf Club, Bear Mountain Resort Community and Surrey Golf Club and will be taking place in the coming weeks.

Members are reminded that early-registration rates are available for all championship events until three weeks prior to the tournament's start date. Accordingly, all remaining PGA of BC championships currently have early-registration rates in effect.
