KEVIN STINSON IS YOUR 2023 BETREGAL PGA OF CANADA CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER!
Kevin Stinson, Professional at Cheam Mountain Golf Course, won the 2023 BetRegal PGA of Canada Championship in a nail-biter that came down to two playoff holes. Stinson started the day five shots back of Ontario's David Sheman, who set the competitive course record yesterday with a 9-under 63. However, Stinson stormed back with a spectacular 7-under final round today to finish at 11-below-par and force a playoff against Sheman.
Stinson ran into bunker trouble on the first playoff hole, setting himself up for a challenge. After Sheman tapped in his birdie putt, Stinson stared down a 30-foot must-make putt. With nothing but ice in his veins, Stinson calmly walked up and buried the putt with authority, taking the professionals to their second playoff hole. There, Stinson's approach to the green was the difference maker as he reached in two on the Par-5 18th. Two putts and a birdie later, he was hoisting the championship trophy!
The PGA of BC is extremely proud of Stinson and all the PGA of BC professionals who competed in the BetRegal PGA of BC Championship. Thank you for your incredible representation of the Association!

GOLF LEGEND LORIE KANE TEAMS UP WITH XONIC GOLF
Xonic Golf announced that golf legend Lorie Kane has joined the team as its latest brand ambassador. The partnership shines a light on Xonic's cutting-edge technology and how its award-winning A.I. golf app, the Xonic iTQTM, is shaping the future of golf for amateur golfers. Xonic Golf is a preferred partner of the PGA of BC.
"I'm excited to be a part of what Xonic is doing for our game with this unique app and platform," said Kane. "It's a great instructional tool that will help golfers enjoy and learn from their experience on the golf course, especially through features like sharing your own data with a teaching pro. This is going to encourage golfers to get out more and shoot lower scores. I'm proud to support a Canadian leader in this space."
Kane's distinguished career as an LPGA Tour Pro needs no introductions, with 4 LPGA Tour wins, 99 top 10 finishes, and more than $10 million CAD in prize money earnings. For her athletic excellence, charitable endeavors, and dedication to growing the game of golf, Kane has been recognized with numerous awards, including Canada's highest honour, the Order of Canada (2006). More recently, Kane was inducted into both the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame (2015) and the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame (2021), and was awarded Canada's highest honour for sports – the Order of Sport Award (2021).
"As a life-long golfer myself, Lorie has always been a role model for me, and I am beyond thrilled that Lorie is so engaged with what we are doing here at Xonic Golf," said Eileen Jurczak, CEO of Xonic. "'For the first time in golf's history, amateur golfers no longer have to struggle with their game on the course. No more asking your playing partners for advice, and no more trying every random tip you saw on YouTube."

The 2023 Golfathon for ALS continued for its second week. On June 8, Ryan Tofani, Connor O'Dell, Zach Olson, Kaleb Fisher and Kathy Stecyk took on Chilliwack Golf Club from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The group played 100 holes en route to reaching their fundraising goals!
Long Beach Golf Course's Cory Brent, Mike Evans, Mike Hucalak and Johnny Hunter participated in the Golfathon on June 9.
Yesterday, we saw multiple clubs participate in the Golfathon. Northview Golf & Country Club had a large group out playing. Thanks to Greg Pool, Clay O'Dell, Theo Tanski, Curtis Cowx, Dan Naismith, Jaxon Wood, Rafer Boyle, Tanner Dawkins and Nick Morgan for their hard work. Wood made sure to beat his colleagues, golfing 101 holes to their 100.
Vernon Golf & Country Club also held a Golfathon yesterday. Brooks Jones and Bradlee Jones conquered 54 holes to raise money for those living with ALS.

The Golfathon, which sees professionals play as many consecutive rounds as possible from dawn until dusk, attracts donations in support of competing professionals. All donations go towards the ALS Society of BC and their mission to cure ALS through funding research, while advocating for and supporting those living with ALS.
To date, the initiative has raised $2,547,720 over 17 years! This funding goes towards several supports. The Equipment Loan program provides mobility equipment, lift equipment, beds & accessories, communication devices, and bathroom aids if needed. All equipment loaned is available at no charge to registered ALS patient members. Money raised also goes towards: support groups; psychological treatment services; Camp Alohi Lani, a youth summer camp for those with relatives living with ALS; and PROJECT HOPE, which raises money to fund an ALS research centre at UBC.
