OLSON, MORGAN CROWNED 2022 ASSISTANTS' & SENIORS' CHAMPIONS AT SANDPIPER GOLF COURSE
|
|
In championships that saw a wide-range of weather conditions, Zach Olson of Chilliwack Golf Club (picture right) and Doug Morgan (Richmond Country Club) battled the elements to win the 2022 PGA of BC Assistants' & Seniors' Championships presented by Arbor Memorial at Sandpiper Golf Course in Harrison Mills, BC.
Last Monday’s first round saw a rain delay for players in the afternoon draw, which halted play for approximately 45-miuntes while crews cleared greens of standing water and debris. Tuesday’s final round featured less than desirable temperatures, but soft conditions that yielded lower scores for the full field of 72 Assistants and 36 Seniors.
Olson captured the Assistants' Championship over Cory Renfew (Modern Golf Vancouver) after the duo were tied at 8-under par. Olson made birdie on the first playoff hole to capture his first PGA of BC tournament title.
Meanwhile, Doug Morgan etched his name on the Ben Colk trophy for the second time after posting one-under par, narrowly edging four players. Daryl Stubbs (Pacific Golf Academy), Brett Burgeson (Breaking Par Golf Academy), Keith Vandenbrink (Vernon Golf & Country Club) and round 1 leader Eddward Boudreau (Gorge Vale Golf Club) all finished just one shot back at even par.
The PGA of BC thanks host Professional Trevor West and the entire team of staff and volunteers at Sandpiper Golf Course for their outstanding hospitality. Further thanks go to presenting sponsors Arbor Memorial for its continued support of these championships and their on-site presence and a prize draw for competitors on Monday, won by Olympic View Golf Club's Randy Frank.

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- SCOTT McCLAIN
|
Head Professional, Copper Point Golf Club
Member Since: 1995
Why did you become a PGA of Canada Professional?
I think it was to honour my Dad, who provided an opportunity for our family to get into golf. They supported me on and off the course and never forced my decision making. I am inspired to give back to the game and business of golf, one that given me so much to me over the past 25 years.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of the PGA of BC?
Being included and recognized alongside all the amazing humans who happen to be amazing PGA of BC members. Their strength and dedicated determination, inspires me to continue seeking both mentorship and mentoring opportunities within our association.
If you had to share one piece of advice with a new member of our Association, what would it be?
Go for it! You get out what you put in and often the most valuable learning and experience, is found from seizing the opportunities that present themselves, even if they seem too far fetched at the time. Be aware and mindful to maintain the best balance you can between your career, your family and most importantly, yourself!
What is an interesting fact about yourself that doesn't involve golf?
For 3.5 months each year, I have a career as a professional A.C.M.G. Ski Guide, leading helicopter and ski touring trips into the Columbia and Rocky Mountains. I also volunteer my time year round for our local Columbia Valley Search & Rescue, serving on the Mountain, Avalanche and Swiftwater rescue teams. I love the mountains and try to find regular doses of nature to balance my world.
