THOUSANDS RAISED OVER BUSY WEEK OF GOLFATHON FOR ALS |
The past week has been busy with a number of Golfathons for ALS taking place at facilities across the province.
Among the highlights, the Radium Golf Group team of Steve Haggard, Lance Barber, Matt Kadar and Avery Livingston played a combined total of 288 holes over a 13-hour period last Wednesday on the Springs and Radium courses.
"One of our members, Ed Wiens, sadly had his mother Elizabeth Wiens pass away from ALS on Monday, June 14," said Haggard. "We are very thankful that we were able to get out and play for Elizabeth and all the people and families ALS has affected.”
Lee Alarie and Jason Jurimae set Sunday aside for their Golfathon at Gallagher's Canyon Golf Club and were treated to a beautiful day on course as they completed 110 holes in support of the cause.
On Monday, Northview Golf & Country Club Professionals Greg Pool, Theo Tanski, Lindsay Manion, Gordon Butt and Dan Naismith were joined by Derek Whipple to log dozens of holes each at the Surrey facility while raising funds for the ALS Society of BC along the way.
Also Monday, Dean Kuntz and Bob McCusker completed more than four loops of The Vancouver Golf Club and were joined by PGA of BC members Sean Thompson, Michael Grabowski, Jaegan Patron and applicant Tyson Boylan at various points throughout the day. The club's efforts resulted in more than $20,000 worth of donations.
Earlier today, Brian Coe and Keri Moffat hit their first tee shots before 5 a.m. at Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club, while Brett Greenman and others did the same at Mount Paul Golf Course this morning.
With the month coming to a close, we're into the final stretch of Golfathons for ALS for 2021, though some facilities will conduct their long day of golf once the calendar has flipped to July. Golfathons for ALS on the schedule for the week ahead include:

THREE MEET TARGET SCORES IN PAT AT ARBUTUS RIDGE GOLF CLUB |
Three individuals achieved target scores Monday during the PGA of BC Playing Ability Test (PAT) held at Arbutus Ridge Golf Club.
Monday’s PAT had 18 participants attempting to shoot at or below a predetermined score relative to course rating based upon their age and gender, which is a requirement for non-exempt applicants to become a PGA of Canada Professional.
Congratulations to the following applicants who were successful in meeting their PAT target scores, listed alphabetically:

By demonstrating their high standard of skill over 18 holes, each of the three successful applicants took an important step toward achieving membership as an Apprentice Professional within the PGA of Canada.

LAST CALL FOR EARLY EXHIBITOR REGISTRATION AT PGA of BC BUYING SHOW |
Prospective exhibitors are reminded that early-registration rates for the 2021 PGA of BC Buying Show are in effect until June 30, so there's still time to take advantage of reduced rates to participate.
The Buying Show will be conducted in a virtual format on Oct. 13-14. Although much consideration has been given to the format of this year's event, after assessing all possibilities, the Association has determined that a virtual show is the best option to ensure a successful event that meets the needs of both exhibitors and attendees alike. Following positive feedback regarding the 2020 Buying Show and with enhancements coming to the event platform, the PGA of BC is looking forward to another successful virtual gathering in 2021.
The early registration rate for an exhibitor booth is $250 plus GST. The fee will increase to $350 plus GST starting July 1.

Gordy Scutt (Victoria Golf Club) was the lone player finishing under par at this weekend's Arbutus Ridge Invitational, which served as the first PGA of BC Order of Merit-counting event on the Vancouver Island Club Pro Series.
Scutt (pictured) took home the overall title by two strokes and topped the professional field by seven shots after carding an even-par 70 in the first round of the two-day event, then closed with a 68 to finish at 2-under for the tournament. The two-time PGA of BC champion earned $825 for the victory.
Mark Bicknell (Victoria Golf Club) went 72-73 for the tournament to take runner-up honours among PGA of BC members, good for a $600 payday. Nate Ollis (Cordova Bay Golf Course) had back-to-back 75s to place third and secure a cheque for $450. Click here to view complete results.

The Interior PGA Tour also contested its first Order of Merit-eligible event of 2021 on Monday at Revelstoke Golf Club, with Alec Hubert (pictured) coming out on top for his first victory on the tour.
Kamloops Golf & Country Club's Executive Professional managed a 3-under-par 69 to take the win, pocketing $500 for first place. Reigning PGA of BC champion Keith Martin (Tower Ranch Golf Club) finished one shot back and collected $290, while Chance Beardsworth (Revelstoke Golf Club) and Ethan Danish (Gallagher's Canyon Golf Club) posted 71s to share third place and earn $225 apiece.

Why did you become a PGA of Canada Professional?
I became a PGA of Canada Professional because I love the sport and coming to work rarely feels like work! In my early 20s I was spending almost five days a week at the golf course anyways, so it was a no-brainer when I started thinking about the PGA of Canada as a career opportunity.
Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Both Peter Smith and Jeremy Johnson would be the biggest influencers on my career thus far. If they had not put the bug in my ear and guided me through the process of joining the PGA of Canada, I don't think I would be where I am today!
What career path led you to where you are today?
I worked a lot of customer-service oriented jobs in my youth and I think that set me up to tie together my love of sport and my service experience.
Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
In my short career I was proud of passing my two-day PAT on my first attempt. As a latecomer to the sport and industry I am proud of just being where I am now as an Apprentice Professional!

The PGA of BC's annual awards program includes 11 honours that are dependent upon nominations from Association members and the general public to help determine each year's Regional and Provincial Award Recipients.
An open call for award nominations will be made in early July, so all are encouraged to begin thinking on which PGA of BC Professionals and facilities are making an impact on our sport and BC's golf community as a whole. The nomination period will close in mid-August, with Regional Award Recipients to be named in September. The 2021 PGA of BC Awards will be presented to Provincial Recipients on Oct. 13.
