Earlier this week, the PGA of BC announced that the difficult decision has been made to suspend Canucks Junior Golf Week this summer given the difficult conditions created by COVID-19.
Some facilities expressed an interest and ability to conduct clinics in a manner that would be safe for all participants and instructors while adhering to the guidelines set forth by provincial and regional health authorities. However, the program’s total capacity would need to be scaled back to such a degree that it could not operated to the same high standard achieved in past years, or to the level of impact that the PGA of BC and our partner organizations would expect.
We are optimistic that by the summer of 2021, circumstances will have returned to normal and the program can resume. We hope to continue the momentum it has built up since its 2014 inception, as Canucks Junior Golf Week represents our most significant junior-golf initiative. Nearly 5,000 girls and boys across the province have learned our sport’s fundamentals from PGA of BC Professionals via the program since it was founded, approximately half of whom had no prior golf experience.
We would like to acknowledge the support of the Canucks, BC Hockey, longtime Presenting Sponsor Odlum Brown Limited and Contributing Partners Srixon and Kal Tire in arriving at this decision. Their patronage helps make this program possible and we appreciate their understanding amid these challenging times.
