Class "A" Professional, Nielsen Agencies
PGA of Canada member since: 1999
Why did you become a PGA of Canada Professional?
I've been involved in the game since I was 10 and was "hired" by Al MacKenzie at the Penticton G&CC. Basically, my dad thought it would be a great way to keep me out of trouble as my teen years approached. I loved being at the golf course, and as I grew up I knew one day I wanted to be just like the Professionals I looked up to when I was young.
Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Mike Parker, former Head Professional at Victoria GC. I was so young at the time and working under Mr. Parker taught me so much about my ensuing career, but most importantly about how to be an excellent PROFESSIONAL and person. Many lessons I learnt I still fall back on today!
What career path led you to where you are today?
I began pushing a broom, worked up to picking the range, cleaning clubs, and finally making it into "the shop." After nine years as Head Professional at Gallagher's Canyon GC, I was looking for a change. The opportunity to work with my friend Mark Lindsay as independent sales representatives was exciting. it is a rewarding career working with my colleagues to try and make their businesses the best they can be!
Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Mentoring young Professionals who have gone onto their own HP, HTP, and GM roles. Multiple nominations for Professional of the Year in the Interior Region and twice being recognized as Sales Representative of the year in BC. And, of course, leading the Association as President from 2019-2021.
