McDONALD GRABS EARLY LEAD IN 2021 PDP ORDER OF MERIT RACE
In the first look at the 2021 PGA of BC Professional Development Program (PDP) Order of Merit presented by Sunice & Bobby Jones, Fairview Mountain Golf Club's Executive Professional has staked out a sizeable lead atop the standings.

Brian McDonald has amassed 42 points to date, giving him an 11-point edge over his nearest pursuer. McDonald has been busy with learning opportunities in the first quarter of the campaign, becoming the first member to reach the maximum number of points available through extracurricular education. That's in addition to 16 points earned through PGA of BC-administered education programming.

Past Order of Merit winner Greg Pool (Northview Golf & Country Club) currently occupies second spot with 31 points. He is followed closely by Brad Jones (Vernon Golf & Country Club) and Cindy Soukoroff (St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino), who share third place with 29 points. There's also a two-way tie for fifth place, as Brian Schaal (Copper Point Golf Club) and Tyler Roope (Langley Golf Centre) hold 28 points apiece.

More than 200 members are already on the board with at least one PDP point for the 2021 season. Please note that points have been added automatically for members who participated in the PGA of Canada Tee Talks Digital Series, based upon participant logs provided by the national office for those sessions.

Click below to view the current standings, access the link to make a requisition for PDP points and to learn more about the program. Members are reminded that all submissions made to the requisition form must be verified with supporting documentation sent to pdp@pgabc.org.

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- CINDY SOUKOROFF
Head Professional, St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino

PGA of Canada member since: 2000

At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
My very first job in golf was back shop at the Fernie Golf and Country Club under Mike Will. I was encouraged to join the PGA of Canada by Greg Pidlaski at the Kelowna Golf and Country Club, making that my first assistant professional position.

Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Receiving the PGA of BC Dick Munn Golf Professional of the Year Award in 2018 from my peers is one of my proudest accomplishments. I am also proud to be starting my second term on the PGA of BC Board this season and was honoured to be selected as a member of the PGA of Canada Diversity & Inclusion Task Force in 2020.

What is a common misconception that golfers make about what your job entails?
I think the greatest misconception is that the "off-season" provides down-time. It is not always understood how much planning, programming and preparation is done during those months to be able to focus on our member and guest services throughout the season.

What is your favourite golf course in British Columbia, and why?
Fernie Golf and Country Club still feels like "home" whenever I return and nothing beats that feeling!

FACT OF THE WEEK
From 1992 to 2000, the PGAs of BC and Alberta annually contested the Titleist Cup, a series of Ryder Cup-style matches between member Professionals from each zone.

The provinces alternated as hosts each year, sending 14-player teams to compete over two days of four-ball, foursomes and singles matches.

As part of the administration team's efforts to preserve the history of the PGA of BC, information about the Titleist Cup has now been added to the Championship History Hub alongside other retired tournaments such as the Pro-Executive and Players' Championships. Our thanks to the PGA of Alberta for their assistance with this project.

Click below to access the Championship History Hub. Other recent record-keeping additions to the PGA of BC website include listings of all past Regional Award Recipients on the Awards Program pages. Find links to these listings at the bottom of each individual award page.
