CANUCKS JUNIOR GOLF WEEK SUSPENDED FOR 2021 SEASON |
With uncertainty remaining around allowable gathering sizes and risks associated with COVID-19 appearing likely to persist into the summer months, the PGA of BC regrets to announce that Canucks Junior Golf Week operations will be suspended in 2021.
The health and safety of all participating youth, their families, PGA of BC instructors and patrons at our affiliated golf facilities is the top priority for the Association, which has arrived at this difficult decision in consultation with the Vancouver Canucks.
Since it was first introduced in 2014, Canucks Junior Golf Week has evolved into one of the most significant junior-golf initiatives in the province, reaching more than 30 British Columbia communities. Nearly 5,000 girls and boys have participated in the program since its inception, approximately half of whom had no prior golf experience. The PGA of BC intends to work alongside partners of the program to have Canucks Junior Golf Week return to facilities across British Columbia in the summer of 2022. The PGA of BC thanks the Canucks, BC Hockey, longtime Presenting Sponsor Odlum Brown Limited and Contributing Partners Srixon and Kal Tire for their tremendous support of the program.
Any parents with children who have not previously participated in Canucks Junior Golf Week may contact the PGA of BC administration team to be added to the Association’s contact list for future updates on 2022 programming.

EXHIBITOR REGISTRATION OPEN NOW FOR 2021 PGA of BC BUYING SHOW |
With the 2021 PGA of BC Buying Show set to take place virtually Oct. 13-14, the Association is pleased to invite exhibitors to sign up now to join us for the event and take advantage of early-registration booth pricing.
As British Columbia’s premier golf-merchandise buying show, this event will once again provide a forum for golf-industry suppliers and service providers to establish meaningful connections with PGA of BC Professionals, facilities and other retailers in a one-stop shop setting.
Although we were hopeful to return to our traditional, in-person setting at Richmond Olympic Oval this year, with continued uncertainty around overall public-health circumstances, as well as what sizes and types of gatherings will be permissible by the fall, the Association has opted to host the Buying Show virtually once again. We are advising of our intention to conduct the show virtually at this stage to allow exhibitors ample time to make arrangements for their 2022 selling season accordingly.
A virtual Buying Show was a new experience for all involved, but the 2020 event was extremely well received by attendees and exhibitors alike. With a number of enhancements to the online platform used to conduct the Buying Show, we are confident that this year’s gathering will build upon the successes of our inaugural virtual event.
More details regarding the features and amenities available to exhibitors will be shared in the months leading up to the show, but the PGA of BC is pleased to offer early-registration booth pricing now at a reduced rate.
From now until June 30, interested exhibitors are welcome to reserve a booth at the event for just $250 (plus GST), which represents a savings of more than 80 per cent off the cost of a traditional 10’x10’ booth at an in-person Buying Show. General exhibitor registration will be available until Sept. 30, with a booth price of $350 (plus GST) taking effect as of July 1.

Whistler Golf Club has approximately 45,000 used range balls for sale. They are in good shape, used one year, some for a year-and-a-half.
These full-flight balls are a combination of Pinnacle and Nike brand.
Asking Price: 20 cents per ball for all 45,000; otherwise 25 cents per ball. Balls are boxed an on skids.

Why did you become a PGA of Canada Professional?
I went to university on and off for a while and never really found anything I liked. I was always working at golf courses, was kind of good at golf and the Pro at the course I was working at (Brad Herridge) gave me a pamphlet about the PGA of Cananda. Golf was really the only thing I liked and was kinda good at, so it just made sense.
At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
I started working as a beverage-cart server at my home club, Regina's Wascana Country Club. Graham Coulter was the Professional at the time and taught me how to play golf. I bounced around from course to course in Regina, working the bev cart and in the pro shop until I finally moved to BC in 2008. Being a decent golfer and working the bev cart had its advantages -- being able to out-drive at least one person in every group was a great way to make tips!
Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Graham Coulter, Brad Herridge, Gord Staseson, Cec Ferguson, Don Brett-Davies, Terry Smith, Ian Henson and Adam Blair, to name a few. All these people saw potential in me that I never knew was there. They have all pushed me and given me the opportunity to grow and become the best Professional, golfer and -- above all -- the best person I can possibly be. I am forever grateful :)
Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Becoming Head Professional at Tobiano Golf Course. I would also have to say winning the Saskatchewan Women's Amateur Championship in 2007. Being inducted into the Regina Sports Hall of Fame in 2019 was a pretty big highlight! That was extremely humbling and nerve-wracking, but overall a pretty amazing experience!

Are you interested in becoming a PGA of Canada Professional, or do you have an employee at your facility with aspirations for a career as a Golf Professional? Applications are now accepted on a year-round basis and remain valid for a full year upon submission.
In order to make an application, an individual must meet the following criteria:
- Aged 18 years or older
- Hold a high-school diploma or equivalent education
- Be currently employed within the golf industry, with a minimum of 400 verifiable hours worked per year prior to Dec. 1
- A letter of recommendation from a Class "A" Professional and a letter from their golf-industry employer confirming their employment; one letter is sufficient if the employer is a Class "A" member
Once proof-of-age and the required letter(s) have been received by the PGA of Canada, applicants are eligible to register for a Playing Ability Test (PAT) to demonstrate that their on-course skills meet a pre-determined standard based upon their age and gender. The registration fee for an applicant's first PAT attempt is included in the PGA of Canada application fee, which is $325 plus GST. Fees for subsequent PAT attempts are $150 plus GST.
