CONSIDER RUNNING FOR POSITION ON PGA of BC BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The PGA of BC Board of Directors encourages all qualified members to consider putting their name forward as a candidate for board position terms that will commence in 2022. 
 
There will be four (4) openings on the board becoming available via election in the new year. The individuals filling these positions will be determined by a membership vote taking place in late January. 

Regional quotas will be confirmed closer to the formal voting period, but at least one director elected in 2022 must be a Vancouver Island representative. 

All positions are two-year terms. Candidates must be Class "A" Professionals to be eligible to hold a board position.

OFFICE CLOSURE NOTICE
Please be advised that the PGA of BC administration office will be closed in observance of Remembrance Day.

Following tomorrow's closure, regular office hours will resume at 8 a.m. PT on Friday, Nov. 12.

Why did you become a PGA of Canada Professional? 
It seemed like a cool profession; to hang around the golf course all day; I was right. I spent my first two years after university working in the insurance industry in London, Ont. I hated wearing a suit every day and working in an office. I despised the weekly pot luck lunches.. I needed to find something else to do. At this time, my younger brother and I were falling in love with golf, and becoming a golf professional seemed very plausible. I certainly have no regrets.

What career path led you to where you are today? 
My first golf course job was as a Candidate for Membership then Assistant Professional at Whitevale Golf Club in Pickering, Ont. at the age of 25. I then became an Associate at Gallagher's Canyon in 2009, followed by Head Professional at Black Mountain in 2012 and finally General Manager at Black Mountain in 2014.

Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of? 
Winning the PGA of BC Golf Facility of the Year in 2018 was awesome, especially as General Manager. We are so proud of who we are at Black Mountain, the product we put out and the atmosphere we provide to our pass holders, guests and staff. It's truly an awesome place to spend time at and it gets better every year. We continue to use our Facility of the Year Award in most of our marketing and will for many years, until we win that award again!

FACT OF THE WEEK
Apprentice Professionals are reminded of their requirement to submit their 2021 employment hours to the PGA of Canada by the Dec. 1 deadline. All Apprentice Professionals must log a minimum of 3,000 hours worked in the golf industry in order to obtain Class "A" status.

All Apprentices were contacted by the national office recently via email with a link to the hours submission portal contained in the message. If you did not receive this information in your inbox, please ensure your email address on file with the PGA of Canada is up to date.

New for this year, please note that all employment-hours submissions now must be verified by an employer. Individuals working in multiple golf-industry positions must have their hours verified by each unique employer.
