BC COURSES IN RECOVERY MODE FOLLOWING MAJOR STORMS
Many PGA of BC facilities are in recovery mode this week after recent storms have pounded the southern portion of the province over the past week-and-a-half. The Association's thoughts are with all affected by the flooding and other challenges created by significant rainfall that persisted through Monday.

The PGA of BC administration team reached out to some members this week for an update on the outlook at their facilities, including Chilliwack Golf Club Superintendent and Apprentice Professional Kaleb Fisher (pictured). Additionally, University Golf Club Head Professional Steve Liddicoat updated us on how this week's storms were a slight setback to the restoration efforts that were already ongoing at his facility after the Vancouver course was hit by a rare tornado the week prior. Our thanks to Fisher, Liddicoat and Royal Colwood Golf Club Head Professional Rich Chlopan for their insights on the conditions at their clubs.

The final Order of Merit standings and the announcement of our Top 100 Golf Professionals of 2021 will be released in early January.

All members are encouraged to review the points they've been credited with to ensure their totals are accurate. Please contact Membership & Events Manager Doug Titterington at [email protected] if you feel a discrepancy exists in your total or for a more detailed breakdown of points awarded.
VOLUNTEERS & IDEAS WELCOMED FOR 2022 EDUCATION PROGRAMMING
The PGA of BC's 2022 education events set to take place through the winter and early spring are fast approaching, and all member input is welcomed to ensure programming meets the needs of all Professionals.

Through the PGA of BC's Spring Education Seminar and Education Series events, we are committed to providing a forum for members to expand their knowledge on important topics by learning from experts in their field -- in golf operations, instruction, business, leadership, management and more.

We encourage members interested in sharing their expertise with their colleagues to put their names forward as an Education Series presenter. Nine PGA of BC Professionals were among the featured experts during our 2021 Education Series, while six members were speakers during our three in-person events of the previous year's series -- pictured here is Myles Johnson (Hillview Golf Course) conducting a presentation at Gallagher's Canyon Golf Club in March 2020. We strive to have our members involved in educating their fellow Professionals wherever possible. Please feel welcome to submit a proposal to speak on a specified topic or area of knowledge, and to work with the PGA of BC administration team to narrow your focus for a presentation to your peers.

As the administration team and Education Committee determines formats and scheduling for 2022 programming, we welcome proposals and topic ideas that can be presented both virtually and in person.

If there is a particular topic you'd like to see covered, or a certain speaker whose expertise you feel would be of benefit to our Professionals, suggestions are always welcomed to ensure these educational opportunities are serving you best. Please contact Membership & Events Manager Doug Titterington at [email protected] with any pitches or suggestions.
DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR APPRENTICES' SUBMISSION OF HOURS WORKED
Apprentice Professionals are reminded of their requirement to submit their 2021 employment hours to the PGA of Canada by the Dec. 1 deadline.

Apprentice Professionals must log a minimum of 3,000 hours worked in the golf industry during their time in the PGA of Canada Training Academy in order to obtain Class "A" status, as well as an annual minimum of 400 hours. Those who do not make their submission prior to the deadline will automatically have their membership status changed to Inactive.

All Apprentices were contacted by the national office recently via email with a link to the hours submission portal contained in the message. If you did not receive this information in your inbox, please ensure your email address on file with the PGA of Canada is up to date.

New for this year, please note that all employment-hours submissions now must be verified by an employer. Individuals working in multiple golf-industry positions must have their hours verified by each unique employer.

Should you have any questions regarding submission of hours, please contact PGA of Canada Membership & Education Coordinator Karen Collins at [email protected]

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- TOM DOULL
Head Professional, Morgan Creek Golf Course

PGA of Canada member since: 1999

At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
First facility working in golf operations was Chateau Whistler Golf Club and the Head Professional was Dave Hodgson. We had fun everyday and learned the importance of service, product and experience. It wasn't work, it was play.

What career path led you to where you are today?
Leaving my previous facilty was a challenge but the door opened for me and Morgan Creek Golf Course has been my home since 2006. No regrets, everything in the past has led you to today.

Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Being part of the team that won the 2001 PGA of BC Facility of the year (Salmon Arm Golf Club) as well as in 2008 at Morgan Creek Golf Course.

If you had to share one piece of advice with a new member of our Association, what would it be?
Always find a better way of doing things, this challenge will keep you interested and help your business build and grow. Listen to customers and find ways to implement great ideas.

FACT OF THE WEEK
With the the late-fall and winter months representing a time of change for the Professional staffs at many of our facilities, please ensure the PGA of BC administration team is advised if you have found a new place of employment, or if any changes have been made to your team's personnel.

Club Professionals in particular are encouraged to review their Professional staff listing via the PGA of BC's Find a Facility page, accessible by clicking below. Each facility's roster of affiliated members in good standing is listed in that location for public view.

If you have changed facilities, or if your facility's staff listing is no longer current, please contact Membership & Events Manager Doug Titterington at [email protected] to have the administration team update affiliations accordingly.
