PGA of BC PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
G&G BRANDS
Oct. 25 marked the 30th anniversary of G&G Brands (previously known as G&G Golf Company). To be in business for three decades is a feat in and of itself, but to accomplish everything it has from its rather humble beginnings is a true testament to G&G's people and its partners alike. When it comes to the evolution of the company and the foundational values it embodies, G&G appreciates where it came from, but is certainly not afraid of where it is going to go.

Through the brands G&G distributes, there is an underlying confidence that you are not only getting the best quality, but you are also staying ahead of the curve. G&G is an innovative company that thinks outside the box, offering trendsetting brands that push the traditional golf envelope. Whether for on the golf course, in the clubhouse or on a patio with friends, G&G Brands is your one-stop shop for all the top-quality merchandise you need to support an active lifestyle.

The long-standing partnerships we have forged with the members of the PGA of British Columbia are truly invaluable. We wish to thank all of you for your unwavering support in making this booking season our strongest in company history. We are looking very forward to a successful 2022 season alongside all of you. CLASS "A" MEMBERS WANTED FOR MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
The PGA of Canada is seeking Class "A" Professionals to serve as mentors to guide Apprentice Professionals engaged in the Training Academy in achieving their career goals.

The PGA of Canada Mentorship Program pairs Class "A" members with up-and-coming Apprentices to help them navigate and succeed within the golf industry as a complement to on-the-job experience.

Those interested in becoming a mentor are asked to complete a short Training Academy module that helps to outline the mentor's role and provide leadership guidance. Once complete, prospective mentors identify the streams in which they can provide expertise (Golf Operations, Management & Leadership, Teaching, Coaching) and specify the number of mentees they are capable of taking on.

Click below to access the Mentorship Program Guidebook and find full details on registration and participation.
DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR APPRENTICES' SUBMISSION OF HOURS WORKED
Apprentice Professionals are reminded of their requirement to submit their 2021 employment hours to the PGA of Canada by the Dec. 1 deadline.

Apprentice Professionals must log a minimum of 3,000 hours worked in the golf industry during their time in the PGA of Canada Training Academy in order to obtain Class "A" status, as well as an annual minimum of 400 hours. Those who do not make their submission prior to the deadline will automatically have their membership status changed to Inactive.

All Apprentices were contacted by the national office recently via email with a link to the hours submission portal contained in the message. If you did not receive this information in your inbox, please ensure your email address on file with the PGA of Canada is up to date.

New for this year, please note that all employment-hours submissions now must be verified by an employer. Individuals working in multiple golf-industry positions must have their hours verified by each unique employer.

Should you have any questions regarding submission of hours, please contact PGA of Canada Membership & Education Coordinator Karen Collins at karen@pgaofcanada.com

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- ALEC HUBERT
Head Professional, Kamloops Golf & Country Club

PGA of Canada member since: 2008

What career path led you to where you are today?
I started as an Assistant, then Associate, at Royal Ottawa Golf Club. I then moved to Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, working under Jeremy Johnson. I later moved to Kamloops G&CC and worked for Brice MacDermott as the HP. I became the GM at Kamloops in 2019 when the position became available.

Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Paul Carrothers at Royal Ottawa was a huge influence for my career, mostly because he encouraged me to continually learn and take advantage of growth opportunities. We had a great team at ROGC in my early years as a professional. Jeff Corcoran and Andrew Donaldson were the Associate pros at the time and they were also a wealth a knowledge for me as I learned about the industry.

Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Winning the PGA of BC Pro-Assistant in 2019 at Copper Point Golf Club! I played that golf course a bunch when I lived in the East Kootenays so it was extra special to play well and win that event.

What is a common misconception that golfers make about what your job entails?
People thinking that once the golf course closes for the winter we stop working.
