IN MEMORIAM: NEIL ROBERTS
The PGA of BC regrets to share that Life Professional Neil Roberts passed away earlier this week at the age of 65.

Roberts, winner of the 1995 PGA of BC Championship, is best known for his time at Pitt Meadows Golf Club, where he served for more than 30 years, including 15 years as Head Professional. He received the PGA of BC's Assistant Professional of the Year Award in 2002 and was the Lower Mainland's regional recipient of the Dick Munn Golf Professional of the Year Award in 2013. He stepped away from his role at the club in 2017 and obtained Life Professional designation shortly after.

A statement issued by Pitt Meadows Golf Club noted that the man fondly known to many as “Chainsaw” will be “dearly missed by all members and staff.”

“Neil will be remembered by Pitt Meadows Golf Club members for his quick wit and friendly presence welcoming members and golfers from the local community,” the statement read. “His positive impact was felt by all members at the golf club and many stories will be cherished. He loved Pitt Meadows Golf Club and the many strong friendships he made throughout the years he was at the club, both as a Professional and club member.”

Roberts is survived by wife Kelly and daughter Ashley. The PGA of BC extends its sympathies to Roberts’ family, friends and industry colleagues during this difficult time. Read more about his accomplished career by clicking below.
CONSIDER RUNNING FOR POSITION ON PGA of BC BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The PGA of BC Board of Directors encourages all qualified members to consider putting their name forward as a candidate for board position terms that will commence in 2022.

There will be four (4) openings on the board becoming available via election in the new year. The individuals filling these positions will be determined by a membership vote taking place in late January.

Regional quotas will be confirmed closer to the formal voting period, but at least one director elected in 2022 must be a Vancouver Island representative.

All positions are two-year terms. Candidates must be Class "A" Professionals to be eligible to hold a board position.

Click here to learn more about the requirements, expectations and duties of board members. A formal call for candidacies will be made in early January.

INTERZONE TEAM THIRD AT HEAD PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP OF CANADA
The PGA of BC's InterZone team placed third at the weather-shortened PGA Head Professional Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf last week, while three of our representatives at Ontario's Lookout Point Country Club earned individual top-15 finishes.

The team of Dave Zibrik (Point Grey Golf & Country Club), Rob Anderson (Kelowna Golf & Country Club), Kyle German (Bald Eagle Golf Club) and Mark Kitts (Shadow Ridge Golf Club) finished the 36-hole tournament at 13-over to finish third out of eight InterZone squads and split a $600 bonus. The PGA of Ontario's entry won the team event at 5-under.

Zibrik and German both ended the event with a 3-over-par total, which saw them finish in a tie for 11th spot and take home $1,150 apiece. Rob Tadey (Fairview Mountain Golf Club) came in at 4-over for a T15 result and a $760 payday. Ontario's Nick Kenney claimed the the title by four shots at 7-under.

Reigning PGA of BC Club Professional Champion Padraic O'Rourke (The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club) was the only other BC player finishing among the top 30 -- his 7-over score left him T24 for the event -- but 10 PGA of BC Professionals finished in the money. OFFERS TO HOST PGA of BC CHAMPIONSHIPS & EVENTS WELCOMED
As the PGA of BC administration team looks to secure future venues for PGA of BC championships or other events, all members are encouraged to advise of their interest in hosting the Association for an event in seasons to come.

Hosting a PGA of BC championship tournament or other event is a tremendous way to showcase your facility to your colleagues and other members of BC's golf industry and community. As a great example of how hosting a PGA of BC event can raise the profile of your facility amongst your peers, seven of the past nine recipients of the Association's member-determined Golf Facility of the Year Award have earned the honour during a year in which they hosted a PGA of BC or PGA of Canada championship.

Although our events and championships generally occupy the same weeks on the calendar from year-to-year, the administration team is pleased to work with your facility to ensure a successful event for all involved. For reference, click here to review the PGA of BC's 2021 schedule of events.

Please direct any inquiries or expressions of interest to PGA of BC Membership & Events Manager Doug Titterington at [email protected]. When doing so, please indicate the events or championships for which you have interest, as well as which future season you may be able to accommodate.
