PGA of BC BUYING SHOW SEES GROWTH; SHARE YOUR FEEDBACK
The Association extends its thanks to all attendees, guests and exhibitors who helped to make last week's virtual PGA of BC Buying Show another excellent event.

The two-day gathering resulted in a five-per-cent increase in attendees compared to last year's first-ever virtual show, while average traffic through exhibitor booths was also up over 2020. The administration team would like to express its appreciation for all show participants for once again adapting to the virtual format given continued challenges related to public health.

Further thanks go to SimplePay for its support and sponsorship of the Buying Show Lounge, to Foresight Sports Canada for its title sponsorship of the Buying Show Education Stage, and to each of our featured speakers on the Education Stage during the two days: Erin MacAngus-Marshall and Kristy White from our Preferred Partners at Dale Carnegie Training of BC, plus PGA of BC Professionals Patrick Lago (Lago Golf Academy), Norman Jackson (Cowichan Golf Club), Scott Kolb (Victoria Golf Club) and Jared Siminoff (Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community). Attendance at Buying Show education sessions rose by more than 60 per cent compared to 2020, so we salute all members who set aside time to participate and expand their knowledge.

Congratulations as well to the following members who will receive incentive prizing for their high finishes on the event Leaderboard: Pat Biln (Castlegar Golf Club), Graham Ogden (Richmond Country Club), Lee J.H. Lee (Hazelmere Golf & Tennis Club), John Vu (Quilchena Golf & Country Club) and Jamie Stirling (GolfTEC Coquitlam).

Whether or not you attended the Buying Show this year, the Association is interested in all members' feedback on the event and the PGA of BC Awards Celebration. Responses from both attendees and non-attendees alike will assist in the planning of these events for 2022.

Please click below to access the Buying Show and Awards Celebration attendee survey, which takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- MYLES JOHNSON
Head Professional, Hillview Golf Course

PGA of Canada member since: 2003

What is the most rewarding part about being a member of the PGA of BC?
It really is a sense of belonging to something bigger then myself which is the game of golf. I believe the PGA of BC members really are the heart and soul of the game in this province. Being a small part of that is very rewarding.

At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
Spallumcheen G&CC was my golf home for the first 21 years of my career. Al Pisch, a name only the most seasoned would know, was my boss for most of those 21 years. He was and continues to be an amazing mentor and friend. Taught me many things about golf and life I still carry with me every day.

What is your most cherished golf memory?
I still remember my first Interior PGA Tour win at Summerland Golf & Country Club. I shot 69 playing with Rich Chlopan and John Ferrier. Such a fun day and couldn’t have asked for better guys to keep me calm!

What is a common misconception that golfers make about what your job entails?
The obvious one is that we play golf all the time! A not-so-obvious one that applies to me specifically is that I have a “job.” Golf is a passion for me and the day I consider it a job I’ll either change my situation or leave golf entirely. We are so fortunate to do what we do, and I’ll try to never take it for granted.
