STINSON SECOND AT PGA ASSISTANTS' CHAMPIONSHIP OF CANADA
Kevin Stinson (Cheam Mountain Golf Course) earned his second runner-up finish in a national championship this year by finishing second Wednesday in the PGA Assistants' Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf.

Stinson, who was also the second-place finisher at the PGA Championship of Canada, closed with a 4-under 68 at The Winston Golf Club in Calgary to reach 9-under for the 54-hole event, finishing two shots back of winner Branson Ferrier of Ontario. Stinson earned $5,000 for the runner-up result.

Meanwhile, Brett Webster (Cedar Ridge Golf Course & Driving Range) gave the PGA of BC another representative in the top three, as his 7-under total for the event left him in a tie for third, a result worth nearly $2,400. John Shin (Northview Golf & Country Club) shot a final-round 69 to finish T7 at 6-under and make a cheque for $1,350.

Other impressive finishes came courtesy of Zach Olson (Chilliwack Golf Club) and Ethan Danish (Gallagher's Canyon Golf Club), who earned a share of 21st place at 1-under, and Nate Ollis (Cordova Bay Golf Course), who placed T24 at even-par. Sixteen of the 23 PGA of BC Professionals in the field survived the 36-hole cut and finished in the money.

In the InterZone Team competition that concluded after the first two rounds, the PGA of BC squad comprised of Shin, Olson, Ollis and Keith Martin (Tower Ranch Golf Club) finished third behind the winners from the PGA of Alberta and runners-up from the PGA of Ontario. EXHIBITOR REGISTRATION FOR BUYING SHOW CLOSES SEPT. 30
Prospective exhibitors are encouraged to register now to join us at the 2021 PGA of BC Buying Show, which will be conducted in a virtual format on Oct. 13-14.

As British Columbia’s premier golf-merchandise buying show, this event will once again provide a forum for golf-industry suppliers and service providers to establish meaningful connections with PGA of BC Professionals, facilities and other retailers in a one-stop shop setting.

Although much consideration has been given to the format of this year's event, after assessing all possibilities, the Association has determined that a virtual show is the best option to ensure a safe and successful event that meets the needs of both exhibitors and attendees alike. Following positive feedback regarding the 2020 Buying Show and with enhancements coming to the event platform, the PGA of BC is looking forward to another successful virtual gathering in 2021.

The registration rate for an exhibitor booth is $350 plus GST. Exhibitor registrations will be accepted until Sept. 30. Click below for more information, a video describing the functions of virtual exhibitor booths and a link to registration.

Please note that exhibitors who have already registered for the event will begin receiving access to the administration of their virtual booths later this week. We look forward to releasing more information specific to attendees in the near future.
RECENT RESULTS
All four regional tours were in action this week, with a couple wrapping up their 2021 seasons by conducting their Tour Championships.

The Vancouver Island Club Pro Series drew to a close on Saturday with the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation Stormin' Norm Pro-Am at Cowichan Golf Club. Ben Griffin (Uplands Golf Club) was in a class all by himself with a 6-under-par 64 to take home the top prize of $785. Griffin is pictured here receiving congratulations from host Professional Norm Jackson. Finishing second with an even-par 70 was Aaron Grice (Gorge Vale Golf Club), collecting $610, while Brian Johnson (Beban Park Golf Centre) shot 71 to place third and earn $480.

Nate Ollis (Cordova Bay Golf Course) captured the tour's season-long Order of Merit. Brad Liptrot (Olympic View Golf Club) took runner-up honours for the year, just edging past Griffin for second place.
The Kootenay Pro Tour also drew to a close with its 36-hole Championship this week, held Monday at St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino and Tuesday at Shadow Mountain Golf Course, with a two-shot swing on the final hole deciding the title.

Trevor Simkins (Bootleg Gap Golf Course, pictured) made birdie on the 18th Tuesday while Scott McClain (Copper Point Golf Club) made bogey for Simkins to emerge with a one-shot victory. Simkins shot 70-78 over the two days to finish at 4-over and take the winner's cheque of $1,100, while McClain's runner-up showing after shooting 71-78 was worth $800. Jamie Curiston (Wildstone Golf Course) and Jeremy Johnson (Fairmont Hot Springs Resort) tied for third at 7-over and collected $450 each.

The Tour Championship win helped Simkins lock up the season-long circuit title, with Johnson ranking second for the year and Curiston placing third overall.
Meanwhile, Monday's Interior PGA Tour event at Gallagher's Canyon Golf Club was the last on the schedule before its Tour Championship at the end of the month.

Nathan Grieve (Talking Rock Golf Course, pictured) emerged with a two-stroke victory and $500 thanks to a 4-under-par 68. Myles Johnson (Hillview Golf Course) secured second place and $340 by shooting 70, while third place was shared by Jason Jurimae (Gallagher's Canyon Golf Club) and Jamie Stevens (Kelowna Golf & Country Club), as each carded 71s and banked $260 apiece.

The IPGA Tour Championship will go Sept. 27 at Fairview Mountain Golf Club.
Finally, the G&G Tour hit Squamish Valley Golf Club on Monday, with Lenny Cyr (Seymour Golf & Country Club, pictured) taking down the victory. Powered by a pair of eagles, Cyr turned in a 4-under-par 68 for a two-stroke triumph and a $460 payday.

Dave Zibrik (Point Grey Golf & Country Club) finished alone in second place after recording a 70, netting $400. Oliver Tubb (Lobb + Partners) and Kyle German (Bald Eagle Golf Club) both shot 71 and tied for third place, with each collecting a cheque for $340.

The G&G Tour season concludes with its 36-hole Championship on Sept. 27-28 at Big Sky Golf Club and The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club.

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- MICHAEL THOMPSON
Class "A" Professional, Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club

PGA of Canada member since: 2012

What career path led you to where you are today?
Fairly early on in my career as a PGA Professional, I had started to focus myself on becoming very well-rounded in golf and the business of golf as I look to become a Head Professional in the future. I invest in personal and professional development yearly and have not been afraid to do things outside of my comfort zone.

Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Wade Nybakken, GM/Executive Professional at Niakwa Country Club in Winnipeg. Wade is one of my mentors and best friends. Wade was instrumental in helping me construct a platform to develop in my career, as well as help me move out to Vancouver to join the team at Shaughnessy.

Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
I am extremely proud to have become a Class "A" Professional and more recently I was very honoured to receive the PGA of BC's Fred Wood Class "A" Professional of the Year Award.

What is your most cherished golf memory?
Golfing at PGA Village before heading to the Orlando buying show. Between playing some great golf courses, learning at the PGA show and so many laughs it will always resonate with me.
