PGA of CANADA CANCELS REMAINING 2020 CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENTS
|
Earlier today, the PGA of Canada announced the cancellation of its final two national events of the season: the PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf and PGA Head Professional Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf and supported by G&G Golf Company.
The decision was made in consultation with playing members and partners and comes as a result of ongoing domestic and international restrictions on travel, as well as safety concerns caused by the pandemic.
The PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf is typically held within Canada in the fall, while the PGA Head Professional Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf and supported by G&G Golf Company is historically held south of the border toward the end of November.
“We surveyed our playing members to gauge their interest on a combined national championship within Canada later this season,” said Teejay Alderdice, the association’s president. “Some players expressed their willingness to travel but a significant portion shared their unease in light of the current climate. We feel it is in the best interest of everyone involved to come back bigger and stronger in 2021.”

PGA of CANADA ANNOUNCES NCCP WORKSHOP CANCELLATIONS
|
PGA of Canada has made the difficult decision to cancel all in-person National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) workshops for the remainder of 2020.
This cancellation notice encompasses Instructor of Beginner Golfers, Instructor of Intermediate Golfers, Instructor of Advanced Golfers, Coach of New Competitors, Coach of Developing Competitors and Community Golf Coach programming. This notice includes the Coach of Developing Competitors workshop typically conducted in January following the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla.
The PGA of Canada will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments across the country and advise of plans for reinstating NCCP workshops when travel restrictions lessen and it becomes safe and responsible to conduct face-to-face sessions again.
First-year Apprentice Professionals' membership status will not be affected as a result of being unable to complete Instructor of Beginner Golfers in 2020, but are still required to complete their first-year core courses. Those who needed to complete Instructor of Beginner Golfers in 2020 are required to pre-register for a 2021 workshop before Dec. 1 to remain active.

Fresh off a fine performance at last week's Canada Life Series event at TPC Toronto, Ethan Danish (Gallagher's Canyon Golf Club, pictured) returned home to collect a win in Interior PGA Tour play on Monday at his home facility.
Danish carded a 6-under-par 66 on the Canyon Course to pick up a three-stroke victory over the field of 39 players, as well as the top prize of $500, following his top-50 result in Ontario the week prior. Keith Martin (Tower Ranch Golf Club) and Dave Munn (Shuswap National) posted 69s to share runner-up honours, securing $300 apiece.
The three regional tours operating in 2020 are now looking ahead to their respective Tour Championships in the weeks ahead, with the Kootenay Pro Tour being the first to wrap its season with a 36-hole event on Monday and Tuesday.
