O'ROURKE CAPTURES PGA of BC CLUB PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Padraic O’Rourke (The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club) tamed a challenging Royal Colwood Golf Club back-to-back 69s this week to secure a convincing win in the Nike Golf PGA of BC Club Professional Championship presented by Oakcreek Golf & Turf LP.

The only player to break par in the 36-hole tournament open to all Head, Executive and Head Teaching Professionals within the Association, O’Rourke’s 2-under total left him five strokes clear of co-runners-up Dave Zibrik (Point Grey Golf & Country Club) and Jesse Crowe (Overlander Golf & Events Centre) as he claimed his first victory in a PGA of BC championship event.

Last year’s recipient of the PGA of BC’s Dick Munn Golf Professional of the Year Award, O’Rourke will now have his name etched on the Dick Munn Memorial Trophy and take home $2,700 for the victory.

Zibrik, who established a new PGA of BC record by earning his fourth-consecutive runner-up finish in the event, and Crowe each collected $1,750 for sharing second place. Mark Kitts (Shadow Ridge Golf Club) placed fourth at 5-over and earned $1,050, while Brian Jung (Brian Jung Golf Academy) and Lance McCullough (The Ridge Course at Cordova Bay) tied for fifth at 6-over to pocket $850 apiece.

The historic A.V. Macan-designed course at Royal Colwood was in tremendous condition for competing Professionals and provided a wonderful setting for the event. The PGA of BC extends its thanks to host Executive Professional Winston Michell, Head Professional Rich Chlopan, superintendent Don Singlehurst and the entire team of staff and volunteers at the club for their outstanding hospitality and assistance in making the tournament a great success.

The Association also extends its appreciation to title sponsor Nike Golf and presenting sponsor Oakcreek Golf & Turf LP for their generous support and on-site presence at the event.
NORTHVIEW G&CC SET TO WELCOME PGA of BC WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
The PGA of BC Women’s Championship presented by Dexim Golfwear is set to draw many of the province’s top female Professionals to Northview Golf & Country Club next week to close out the Association’s 2021 tournament calendar.

The 36-hole stableford-scoring event, taking place Tuesday and Wednesday on Northview’s Ridge Course, will have a $2,500 purse on the line. If the past three editions of the tournament – which returned as a standalone event in 2018 – are any indication, there’s sure to be some great performances on display to decide the title.

The field of registered competitors includes three past winners: defending and national champion Christine Wong (University Golf Club), two-time titlist Ashley Zibrik (Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club) and four-time winner Leila Harman (Morgan Creek Golf Course).

EXHIBITOR REGISTRATION FOR BUYING SHOW CLOSES SEPT. 30
Prospective exhibitors are encouraged to register now to join us at the 2021 PGA of BC Buying Show, which will be conducted in a virtual format on Oct. 13-14.

As British Columbia’s premier golf-merchandise buying show, this event will once again provide a forum for golf-industry suppliers and service providers to establish meaningful connections with PGA of BC Professionals, facilities and other retailers in a one-stop shop setting.

Although much consideration has been given to the format of this year's event, after assessing all possibilities, the Association has determined that a virtual show is the best option to ensure a safe and successful event that meets the needs of both exhibitors and attendees alike. Following positive feedback regarding the 2020 Buying Show and with enhancements coming to the event platform, the PGA of BC is looking forward to another successful virtual gathering in 2021.

The registration rate for an exhibitor booth is $350 plus GST. Exhibitor registrations will be accepted until Sept. 30. Click below for more information, a video describing the functions of virtual exhibitor booths and a link to registration.

Please note that exhibitors who have already registered for the event will begin receiving access to the administration of their virtual booths later this week. We look forward to releasing more information specific to attendees in the near future.

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- NATHAN GRIEVE
Head Professional, Talking Rock Golf Course

PGA of Canada member since: 2016

Why did you become a PGA of Canada Professional?
I truly believe in finding a passion and turning it into a career, instead of just finding a job. Golf was a passion of mine that I did not want to leave to go find a "real job."

Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Adam Blair, preaching to always get involved with the Association, including committee participation, volunteerism, and attending all education events. He is always focusing on making PGA professionals better, and the drive to never stop learning/developing.

What is your most cherished golf memory?
RBC Scramble National Finals at Cabot Links with a team that had my brother on it.

What is a common misconception that golfers make about what your job entails?
That we do nothing in the winter once the course closes.

FACT OF THE WEEK
Members are advised that they will have an opportunity for input on the provincial recipients of the 2021 PGA of BC Awards Program starting next week.

All Professionals are asked to keep an eye on their inbox for a link to this year's awards ballot, on which members will be able to indicate their preferred candidate in the 11 member-determined award categories for which regional recipients have already been announced.

Please note that the membership vote does not directly determine the provincial recipients for each award, but results are considered along with determinations made by a Final Selection Committee comprised of past PGA of BC award recipients to identify this year's honourees.
