REGIONAL RECIPIENTS NAMED FOR 2021 PGA of BC AWARDS PROGRAM |
Earlier today, the PGA of BC was pleased to announce regional recipients in 11 categories of the Association's 2021 Awards Program.
The individuals and facilities identified as regional recipients were selected for their respective honours following an open nomination period and extensive deliberations by regional nomination committees.

Each regional recipient is now a provincial award finalist, with the honourees to be announced Oct. 13 during the virtual 2021 PGA of BC Awards Celebration presented by Replay Golf Supplies & Tribal. Eligible provincial award recipients will be put forward as British Columbia's nominee for corresponding national awards presented by the PGA of Canada where applicable.
Later this month, PGA of BC members will have an opportunity to vote for their preferred candidate in each category to assist in identifying this year’s provincial recipients. The results of the membership vote will be considered alongside determinations made by a Final Selection Committee consisting of past PGA of BC provincial award recipients.

EIGHT APPLICANTS ACHIEVE TARGET SCORES IN FINAL 2021 PAT |
Eight individuals successfully met their respective target scores Tuesday in the final PGA of BC Playing Ability Test (PAT) of 2021, conducted at Belmont Golf Course.

REGISTER NOW FOR PGA of BC WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP |
The PGA of BC Women's Championship presented by Dexim Golfwear is fast approaching and all eligible Professionals are encouraged to register to compete.
The Women's Championship is a 36-hole, individual stableford-scoring event that will be held at Northview Golf & Country Club's Ridge Course on Sept. 28-29.
The field of registered competitors already features three past winners, including defending champion Christine Wong (University Golf Club), two-time titlist Ashley Zibrik (Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club) and four-time winner Leila Harman (Morgan Creek Golf Course).

ASSISTANTS' CHAMPIONSHIP OF CANADA TEES OFF NEXT WEEK |
The PGA of BC will be well-represented next week when the PGA Assistants' Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf tees off at The Winston Golf Club in Calgary.
The 101-player field will include 23 PGA of BC Professionals vying for the title and its $9,000 grand prize during play running Monday through Wednesday.
The 54-hole event will once again include an Inter-Zone Team competition over the first 36 holes, with a cash bonus to the top three squads. The PGA of BC's talented Inter-Zone Team, pictured from left, will include John Shin (Northview Golf & Country Club), Nate Ollis (Cordova Bay Golf Course), Keith Martin (Tower Ranch Golf Club) and Zach Olson (Chilliwack Golf Club), with the roster determined via the results of the PGA of BC Assistants' Championship in July.
However, many more in the field from BC are capable of contending for the title, including two-time winner Bryn Parry (Seymour Creek Golf Centre), reigning PGA Women's Champion of Canada Christine Wong (University Golf Club) and 2021 PGA Championship of Canada runner-up Kevin Stinson (Cheam Mountain Golf Course). They're all looking to become the first BC-based player to win the national Assistants' Championship since Matt Palsenbarg (Point Grey Golf & Country Club) captured the event in 2009.

LAST CHANCE TO APPLY FOR PGA of BC SCHOLARSHIP & BURSARY PROGRAM |
Members are reminded of tomorrow's deadline to apply for the 2021 Jim Gibson Scholarship and PGA of BC Community Leadership Bursary.
The Jim Gibson Scholarship is given annually to an individual within the PGA of BC community that best exemplifies volunteerism and demonstrates dedication to furthering their education to benefit others in a community. The 2020 recipient was Jennifer Greggain (Golf Canada) to assist her pursuit of a two-year master's degree in High-Performance Coaching and Leadership and the University of British Columbia.
The PGA of BC Community Leadership Bursary is awarded to an individual or member facility within the Association demonstrating an extraordinary desire and passion to make a significant difference in the lives of those around them, and in doing so, sets an example of “giving back” that all PGA of BC members can be proud of. The 2020 recipient was Kyla Inaba (Predator Ridge Resort) to benefit the Swing Like a Girl program she oversees and to further her expertise in coaching and instruction.
Both awards are in the amount of $1,000. The application window closes as of 4 p.m. PT on Friday, Sept. 10. Click below to learn more about the two awards and access their respective application forms. We look forward to announcing the recipients in early October.

Yet another regional tour event saw Kevin Stinson (Cheam Mountain Golf Course, pictured) top its leaderboard this week when the G&G Tour resumed its schedule at Ledgeview Golf Club.
Stinson birdied the 17th and 18th holes Monday to earn a one-stroke victory over three players with a 3-under-par 67, taking home $500 for the win. It marked the third time he's finished first on the Lower Mainland circuit this season and his fourth regional-tour triumph overall in 2021.
The three-way tie for runner-up honours at 68 included Kyle McMurphy (Eaglequest Golf Centre at Coquitlam), Bryn Parry (Seymour Creek Golf Centre) and Christine Wong (University Golf Club). Each player earned $375 for their share of second place. Special congratulations go to Tim Wilson (Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club), who recorded an ace on the par-3 17th.

The PGA of BC is pleased to share that The Redwoods Golf Club Professional Scott Cameron and wife Rachel recently celebrated the arrival of their first-born child.
Maxwell John Cameron was born at 8:22 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 30 at Langley Memorial Hospital. Maxwell weighed in at 6 lbs., 14 oz.
Redwoods Head Professional Jordan Fletcher and wife Courtney are godparents to the newest member of the Cameron clan.
The Association extends its congratulations and best wishes to the Cameron family!

At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
McCleery Golf Course working for Earl Francis, but Fraser Mulholland was a pro there and he was my golf coach at UBC, so it was nice to continue learning from him, he was a great mentor.
Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Chris Hood. He was the GM at Musqueam and was extremely supportive when I worked for him. I was working hard with the UBC Women's Golf program and was trying to building my lesson clientele at the same time. There was a lot of juggling and learning and he saw the value of all of that.
Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Coaching the UBC Women's Team to the 2001 NAIA National Championships in Kentucky. Which subsequently led to a recent induction into the UBC Sports Hall of Fame because of that win :)
What is your most cherished golf memory?
So many great memories, it's hard to choose one. There are many, many little things to reflect on during hundreds of rounds of golf with my Dad.

The PGA of BC has two avenues of recognizing member Professionals for their efforts in professional development.
The Professional Development Program (PDP) Order of Merit presented by Sunice & Bobby Jones is a year-long points race awarding credit for various undertakings that include continuing-education pursuits, volunteerism, participation in Association events and more. A cash prize pool is split between the top 10 finishers at the end of each season, with the overall Order of Merit leader recognized during the following year's Spring Education Seminar.
The Davie Black Professional Development Award, for which regional recipients were announced today, is meant to recognize outstanding contributions to the Association by an individual Professional on multiple fronts. These include efforts meant to elevate the PGA brand, qualities of leadership and moral character, and ongoing service to the Association and game of golf. We look forward to naming a provincial recipient for this honour during the PGA of BC Awards Celebration on Oct. 13.
