Human Resources

This first quarter for PGC was marked by substantial growth, a strong focus on promoting internal team members, and community involvement. We recognize the valuable contributions of our current workforce and have focused our efforts on providing opportunities for professional development and advancement within the PGC family. In addition, we have welcomed several experienced members to our growing team.

We are happy to welcome Christopher Gahan, the new Equipment Operations Manager, to PGC and to the Leadership Team. Christopher has extensive experience in fleet management, asset procurement, vendor relations, and department finances. When he is not leading his PGC team, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys and playing recreational hockey.

Our commitment to community outreach started off strong in 2023! Earlier this month, we attended the Tarleton State University Career Fair. It was wonderful to visit with the students, future graduates, and construction management staff. Big things are happening at TSU and we are thankful to be a part of it!

Like previous years, we are happy to announce that our very own William Sughrue and his wife Deanna, will be representing Austin Smoke House Works at the Annual BBQ Cookoff this March. This event works to provide educational opportunities for Travis County and we thank Willie for his involvement and for allowing PGC to help sponsor this event each year.

It has been an exciting Q1 for PGC, and we are thrilled to have such talented team members representing our name.
Operations

Continuing the pace we ended at last year, the Operations team has been hard at work on some of our largest jobs. This quarter we have seen many of our highly skilled team members receive promotions for their diligent work and are proud of their accomplishments.

In recent months, Jason Snyder has been promoted to the position of General Superintendent and has been working diligently to unify all of PGC's Superintendents.

As the Make Safe and Demo phases of our TDC job site begin, new Superintendent Josh Resendiz has stepped in to assist in moving things toward the building phase- all while the Dessau project continues to gain momentum.

Our PGC workforce has shown persistence these past few months with projects all across the Austin area. Derek Barker oversees the Emergency Water On Call duties with Daniel Barron while also managing the Ullrich project. Roger Sanford has taken great pride in his role as Superintendent of the dirt scope and Water On Call.

Joseph Lopez is finishing out some IDIQ projects while gearing up for Texas Plume to start. Keeping our relationship with the Town of Austin at the forefront, Francisco Juan, Jose Sanchez, Jaime Herandez, and Sergio Sanchez continue to hammer the downtown projects.

We are pleased with how things have progressed thus far, as the Operations team has laid an excellent foundation for the coming months. We are continuously striving to improve communication and teamwork- strengthening our team as a whole.
Your Mental Health Matters.
Things can become overwhelming at times and can take a toll on our bodies, which makes it extremely important that we recognize when we aren't feeling our best, ensuring we can take the proper measures to get help.

Project Management
Exciting things have been happening within the PMO team at PGC. We have celebrated the wins and learned from the losses. As we start a new year, PGC is looking to expand the wins and take those lessons learned into making 2023 very successful. As we reflect on 2022 and what it taught us as a team, we've found that together we can do remarkable things.

Plant Division
Ullrich Water Treatment Plant Process Drain & Support System Improvements are taking off. Thanks to Derek and Daniel, Hornsby Bend is coming along and will be entering the home stretch. Both projects are ones that PGC is proud to have our name on. We have a highly dynamic team consisting of Ben Richards and Brendan Musser working together with Josh Boardman and Lesly Palacios on managing these projects.

Water on Call
There have been some changes to the Water on Call side of things. However, even with the changes, we know that we will continue to provide the City of Austin with the same support and consideration moving forward. Roger Stanford, Daniel Vasquez-Barron, and Derek Barker are leading this project. No matter what situation arises, these guys deal with all kinds of emergencies in the middle of the night to ensure the City of Austin wakes up to water in its pipes.

Production Division
Further progress has been made on previous projects, moving them closer to the finish line. Among them, Medical Arts has been progressing steadily with the City of Austin and is on track to finish soon. This project has provided great opportunities for Alexander Grant to shine in his role as Project Manager Assistant. Little Walnut Creek is another one that PGC is closing out, just in time for some new and amazing opportunities. The PGC team is thrilled to be working with Tesla on a project to bore a 30" main water line underneath the Colorado River.

As we all know, our industry has a lot of moving parts and not everything always goes according to plan.

Despite everyone at PGC being excited about PGC's largest project to date, Temple Data Center was suddenly halted last month in an unplanned turn of events. There has been a major change to the building, and they are currently redesigning it to make those changes. PGC is continuing to support JE Dunn and preparing the site so when those changes are approved everything is ready. This was a disappointment for everyone but our relationship with JE Dunn continues to grow and our team has done a great job shifting gears on the recovery.

This year has got us excited for the future of PGC as we continue to grow our business in the private sector and our relationships with the City of Austin, San Antonio, and surrounding areas.

Plant Division
STAND-ALONE PLANT PROJECTS
Brazos River Authority Copper Ion Generation(CIG)- PGC was recently the low bidder on this project located in Northern Williamson County at Stillhouse Hollow Lake. The project scope includes the installation of yard piping, construction of a new CIG building, electrical and controls, supply and installation of CIG equipment, and underwater installation of injection equipment. Depending on the award date, we are anticipating this project to start in April or May of 2023.

Hornsby Bend- Hornsby passed some major milestones recently as we come into the home stretch of this project. The electrical building is all complete and awaiting electrical equipment, which is currently being manufactured. The pumps and piping have been installed in the Transfer Pump Station and are awaiting electrical and controls. We are currently working on finishing the site and revegetation. We have had great success building the PGC reputation on this project and are looking forward to a strong finish!

Ullrich WTP PDSSI- Our new Plant Project at COA Ullrich WTP is now underway. We have completed phase 1 which was to build a new parking lot for the owner. This will help plant personnel who will be displaced by the continued construction activities. This project officially started in September 2022 and is anticipated to be completed in March 2025.

SAWS CLOUSE WRC Headworks Rehab- Our team in San Antonio is making PGC proud and building strong relationships while at one of San Antonio’s largest Wastewater Treatment Plants. After completing all the South Train demolition, we installed complicated channel concrete placements, grit equipment pads, and prepared the grit chambers for the new grit equipment. This project is currently on pause awaiting grit equipment manufacturing slated to be delivered in April 2023. This project is scheduled to complete in Fall 2023.

IDIQ PLANT PROJECTS
Ullrich Recycle Pumps- PGC is working with the COA and the pump manufacturer to get the Recycle Washwater Pumps rebuilt and reinstalled to improve operations at the plant.

Texas Plume Lift Station Rehabilitation- This project is in two parts– Electrical Rehab and Mechanical Upgrades. The project is in Northwest Austin along a critical wastewater transmission facility. The project scope includes the construction of a new electrical building and the replacement of major electrical and control components. The mechanical upgrades include the replacement of valves and the installation of a bypass pumping vault. We are excited to start this project in February 2023 and complete it in March 2024.

DESSAU WWTP Flow Diversion- The Dessau Project, which consists of a Lift Station and over 8,000 feet of force main, is nearly complete. The PGC team has been working for the last six months at a rapid pace to complete this emergency project for Austin Water. The timeframe on this project is approximately ½ of a normal project this size. When completed, this project will help meet the needs of Austin Water for the Northeast Austin area and improve customer compliance with state regulations. This is an exciting project; it has been a great opportunity for success for the entire PGC family!

Large Facilities IDIQ Contract- PGC's Plant Division is currently working through preliminary work assignment scopes of work and coordinating schedules with the City of Austin. The projects are in every corner of the city.

Heart Health Month: AFib
Our hearts are vital to the health of our entire body and recent studies have shown that at least 2.7 million Americans are living with Atrial fibrillation.

Atrial fibrillation, also known as AFib, is a type of heart arrhythmia in which the heart beats irregularly and often faster than normal. Symptoms of AFib can include heart palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness, and chest pain.

Treatment options for AFib can vary based on the individual and can range from medications to lifestyle changes to surgical procedures. In some cases, AFib can be managed with medication, such as beta-blockers or calcium channel blockers, that control the heart rate and regulate the electrical signals in the heart.

Lifestyle changes, such as maintaining a healthy diet and exercise, can also help reduce the symptoms of AFib.

It's important to understand the effects of AFib because it can increase the risk of blood clots, stroke, heart failure, and other complications. If left untreated, AFib can lead to long-term damage to the heart and potentially serious health problems.

Understanding the symptoms and treatment options for AFib is crucial in maintaining a healthy heart and reducing the risk of complications. By recognizing the signs of AFib and seeking prompt treatment, individuals can help ensure their heart stays healthy and they can live a fulfilling life.
