Last November, Pottawatomie Golf Course lost one of its beloved "grumpy" players, Tom Sweet. He loved this course, proven by the fact that he was one year shy of teeing it up for his 60th
year. For whatever reason, I was Denzel to Tom. Always asking "How's it going Denzel?" but never staying long enough to hear my response! That was Tom, a little rough around the edges but a big old teddy bear inside. Gardening was one of his passions, along with his wife Nancy, his children and grandchildren, the Chicago Cubs, his 6:38am tee time, the Iowa Hawkeyes and cleaning windows.Being the great guy that he was, we received many donations in his honor for a memorial at PGC.If you played golf in late April, you probably noticed we cleared the brush along the right side of the 4th tee box. "Tommy's Tee" will be planted with native plants from the cart path to the water, resulting in beautifying the area, continuing our commitment to the environment and of course, honoring Tom.
Thursday, May 2 is aerification day. The greens will be closed for most of the day. Sorry for the inconvenience, but we'll all be happy this was done when the dog days of summer hit.
The tree carving on the White Oak near the practice green is coming along! Stop by and see the progress!
