As I mention in this video, 'tis the season of focusing on the cycles of life and death and all the ups and downs, spookiness, sorrow and celebrating that entails.

Whether you observe Halloween, Samhain, Dia de los Muertos, All Souls and All Saints Days, relate to Scorpio Season, or appreciate Nature in the midst of Autumn with the colorful (a.k.a dying, albeit a beautiful death) leaves starting to fall as the days grow shorter and darker in preparation for winter, we cannot escape the fact that we must eventually deal with our own or other's mortality. (And fyi this time has been especially intense as the planets have been planet-ing!! If the past month has been particularly rough, I made this reel for you last week so you know you're not alone.)

And as discussed in the last few PGG essays, as a culture we continue to undergo the loss of iconic and foundational personas that have been part of our zeitgeist; whose presence will leave big gaps, but whose legacy remains in the imprints and inspiration they have left on humanity via the arts, social justice, philanthropy, life story and more - as well as younger souls whose lives may have been brief but touched many as well.

In your own personal life, you might be going through the sudden or expected loss of loved ones, and my condolences to anyone who has experienced this recently. But no matter when our nearest and dearest pass away, it has been my belief, understanding, and direct experience that they absolutely still live on. Not just in our memories and what they left behind, but that their spirit, their personality, their consciousness continues beyond this realm.

They are right here, existing - as I refer to it - "on the other side," in another form that is non-physical. This go-around in a meat suit on Earth may have ended, but they can now reunite with others who have gone before them and have other adventures in their soul's evolution while in a more etheric state. And they can also keep their connection with us, which grows stronger the more we are open to it.

I say this not only as a lovely sentiment to soothe or assuage the human heart, but with full confidence that comes not only from the acceptance I've always had about life after death and reincarnation, but as someone who has the evidential ability to quite literally speak with folks on that side, serving as a medium to bring through proof of personality, physical characteristics and specific messages to those who are still here. Having this direct experience serving nearly two hundred people in this way over the past few years has transmuted any lingering doubt or wisps of hope and faith into solid, grounded knowingness.

I have too many firsthand examples, stories and details, proof of existence of the afterlife of strangers that it is undeniable (besides all the hundreds of mediums since the late 1800's especially before me do too!). These exchanges have provided comfort to the person receiving the reading, as well as closure and/or an opportunity for expression by those on the other side. The purpose is always to foster connection, guidance and profound healing to both parties, and often, I have found at least in my practice, it is even more so for the dearly departed.

Whether a parent, relative, friend - or yes, even an ex - they take their shot to set the record straight and express whatever, love, remorse, regret, forgiveness or encouragement is needed to assist their person on this side. And in so doing they are able to fully process and heal an aspect of themselves so they can continue to grow on the spirit side, as evolution and growth is the whole point, regardless of which side of the veil you are on.

I haven't talked very explicitly about this newer aspect of my work because - well, you can imagine not everyone is into or believes in that sort of thing! So what better time of year to come more out in the open about it, as it is said that right now that "veil between the two worlds is very thin" and these are the holidays that focus on our ancestors and loved ones in spirit. (Curious? You can watch clips of readings here, here or here and more in my Private Sessions with Kristina Playlist)

🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸

I am of course certainly not exempt from the human side of this equation, with the sadness and discomfort that accompanies it, as I have experienced much loss in my own life (both parents, very close friends and relatives), and then most recently a profound loss of a different kind....

I went to visit my tree friend in Central Park two Sundays ago and was shocked to learn he wasn't there; instead a pile of mulch blanketed over where his trunk once stood. This was devastating to me on many levels that may or may not make sense on any logical level, but that my heart could not deny as I instantly crawled into a fetal position and bawled my eyes out on a nearby boulder. And then on my couch or floor nearly nonstop for the next three days.

Henry, as he told me his name was, had been my Father Papa Grandfatherly tree friend; an old, wise, gentle spirit who had been my solace, comfort and refuge over the past six years. He was the place where I would go when I was feeling most alone, stressed, out of sorts or fearful and needed a feeling of safety and security.

One of my most poignant memories of him was on Thanksgiving Day in 2021 (click for my post and pix from that day):

I had been experiencing some anxiety and couldn't be with my family due to all the covid shenanigans at the time. In my meditation that morning I asked for help and heard “Go to the trees” 🌳 So off I went. I was not seeing my human family that day so I might as well see my tree family…

I went to Henry / Father Tree and when I allowed myself to rest on his weathered bark I felt him console me energetically, but also heard very clearly in my mind that “Everything’s going to be alright.” A wave of calm rushed over me. I wondered if I was I making it up to make myself feel better? Perhaps, but keep reading….

I was then reminded of the mantra “Be the tree” and took some cool photos of our shadows and realized it was a great image to help me visualize being a tree!

I moved on and visited my other tree friends who reminded me how lucky we are to be alive in these bodies on this beautiful planet at this time. (Even with all the chaos and darkness which I know is the Earth detoxing as part of her own transformation, but man it can be hard for sensitive souls!) It was a special message that helped me feel quite grateful and grounded. 🙏🏻 For a moment it felt like #heavenonearth 🌍

And then as I was exiting the park - over TWO hours after my rendezvous with Father Tree Henry - a lovely busker was standing there singing at the top of his lungs Bob Marley’s song Three Little Birds, joyfully belting out the chorus: “Every little thing's gonna be alright."

It was a healing day that then became a magical one, and Henry was a major part of my life ever since. (The above photos, and many of the trees you've see in these PGGs over the years was of him; I'll be making a little "in memoriam" reel on my IG this week too, be sure follow to see when posted.)

Nothing is absolute. Everything changes, everything moves, everything revolves, everything flies and goes away. ~ Frida Kahlo

As I mentioned, I've lost a lot of people in my life, but never had pets, so I imagine this loss has a feeling of something in between? It was a pure and deep grief and it triggered other relationship issues that required healing ... It has not been easy but the Universe brought many sublime and unexpected gifts with the pain, including free tickets out of the blue to see The Lion King on Broadway exactly three days after I found out Henry was gone.

This is a show I've never seen my entire time being a New Yorker. I went with a friend who I had one of the healing experiences with exactly 24hours prior, and with whom years ago talked about how one day we would see it together. Yes, a show about nature and the interconnectedness of all beings and the circle of life. Once again #icantmakethisup

And speaking of circles, another beautiful gift I received was the feeling of support I got from my closest friends, who knew how much he meant to me, two of whom offered to do a little ceremony to honor him. It makes me tear up right now just thinking of it. Gathering with them at the site to celebrate and say good-bye to Henry was something I didn't realize I needed and made me realize how important these rituals and markings of significant passings are, regardless of the forms they embodied.

It reminded me how healthy it is to grieve, which is a really specific emotional state that takes its own course should you allow it to unfold - no matter what kind of loss you experience or how you send off the life of the departed.

So whatever you might be grieving, whether people, pets, trees, jobs, relationships, homes, a way of life or shattered belief system - take the time to process and reflect on the loss. Find gratitude for the memories and gifts it gave you while you still had it, the lessons and healing it brought and how you will only be stronger as a result, knowing that the gap will eventually be filled to carry you through the next part of your soul's journey.

And remember, if the loss was a sentient being who crossed over, you will be reunited at some point on the other side. In the meantime, I might be able to be a telephone operator, a bridge of communication between you, just reach out.

It will be interesting to see if the spirit of a tree can come through (pets definitely can, and I have brought several through) but, just like a human, it doesn't replace the physical presence that is forever gone; you can't pick up the phone and call or text or give them a hug. This is the hardest part of loss that we cannot ignore.

But as I said to my client last week who still feels the pain of her brother's passing eight years later, "Let the grief be purifying, not putrefying. Let the shit turn into gold, that is the real alchemy." This is a core theme of Scorpio season, as we start to see the death in nature all around us decompose in order to be transmuted, transformed and born anew come Spring.
