Featured PHA Innovation Summit Speaker of the Month
|
|
Dr. Mandy Cohen, MPH will be a keynote speaker and present, Value-based Care Traversing Medical, Behavioral and Social Care Needs.
Mandy Cohen, MD is Aledade’s Executive Vice President and the Chief Executive Officer of Aledade Care Solutions, the company’s new health services unit. Dr. Cohen was most recently the Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, where she led the state’s COVID response and transformation of North Carolina’s Medicaid program, focusing on whole-person care and the non-medical drivers of health. Dr. Cohen also served as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Staff at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, helping to implement the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance exchanges and innovative new payment models. Dr. Cohen has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine and is an adjunct professor at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Dr. Cohen received her MD from Yale University School of Medicine and her Master’s in Public Health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She trained in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Melissa Fox to Serve as PHA President
PHA is pleased to announce that Melissa Fox, MHA, FACMPE, FACHE will now serve as PHA's President.
“Melissa continues to demonstrate excellence in her approach and passion for the mission of Population Health Alliance, our community of members and improvement in health and access to care for all individuals," said PHA Chairman Emeritus Rose Maljanian, Chairman & CEO HealthCAWS.
Ms. Fox is the Chief Operating Officer at Acenda Integrated Health. Acenda is a nonprofit organization dedicated to industry-leading prevention, treatment, and wellness services compassionately delivered to ensure that every individual, family, and community achieves their greatest potential. Acenda provides health and social service programs across 56+ locations throughout New Jersey.
In her current role as COO, Melissa Fox oversees the operations and systems of more than 100 programs throughout 13 counties in New Jersey. As a family services agency, Acenda provides evidence-based programming in child welfare, prevention, juvenile justice, outpatient mental health, crisis services, substance use disorder treatment, and supportive housing. Under Melissa’s leadership, the Acenda team has received funding to launch innovative programming including a residential program for pregnant women in recovery, an initiative which provides housing and support services for families at risk of homelessness, and a regional partnership grant to provide supports to children who may be at risk due to a caregiver or parent’s substance use disorder.
Melissa has had a distinguished career of 20+ years leading innovations in health care operations including Federally Qualified Health Centers, Healthcare for the Homeless, Behavioral Health, Home Care and Hospice. Fox is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the National Association of Health Services Executives, and the Medical Group Management Association and is an adjunct faculty member for Health Administration at Wilmington University. She has been featured in the South Jersey Journal as a top African American Leader in Healthcare, as well as a 2019 Most Influential African American. She has also been recognized as one of the 2021 African American Women Leaders in New Jersey by the South Jersey Journal.

PHA Recognizes Board of Directors Members Now on PHA's Alumni Board

The Population Health Alliance Board of Directors recognized six outstanding Board members for their long-term service to the organization having been re-elected for the maximum number of terms allowable by the organization’s bylaws: Dr. Anthony Akosa, Dr. John Brooks, III, Dr. Raymond Fabius, Dr. Mary Jane Osmick, John Robitscher, MPH, and Dr. Sandeep Wadhwa. These individuals were transitioned to the PHA Alumni Board so that their institutional knowledge and strategic and clinical recommendations may continue to strengthen PHA and contribute to the growing population health improvement movement. “On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, I would like to extend our sincerest appreciation and congratulations to these individuals for their unwavering commitment to PHA and their exemplary service to PHA and the industry” said PHA Chairman Emeritus Rose Maljanian, Chairman & CEO HealthCAWS.

Novartis Kisqali® Phase III NATALEE trial meets primary endpoint at interim analysis demonstrating clinically meaningful benefit in broad population of patients with early breast cancer
Novartis recently announced positive topline results from an interim analysis of NATALEE, a Phase III trial evaluating Kisqali® (ribociclib) plus endocrine therapy (ET) in a broad population of patients with hormone receptor-positive/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HR+/HER2-) early breast cancer (EBC) at risk of recurrence1. The Independent Data Monitoring Committee recommended stopping the trial early as the primary endpoint of invasive disease-free survival (iDFS) has been met. Kisqali plus ET significantly reduced the risk of disease recurrence, compared to standard adjuvant ET alone, with consistent benefit in patients with stage II and stage III EBC regardless of nodal involvement1. Geisinger and Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius propose plan for behavioral health facility in Mahoning Township
Geisinger and The Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius have entered an agreement that will pave the way for an inpatient behavioral health facility in Mahoning Township. The final land purchase is pending township approval of a property subdivision request, which the Sisters and Geisinger submitted earlier this week.
“This agreement and subsequent project continue our long history of service and ministry to those in need,” said Sister Barbara Sable, SS.C.M., president of the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius. “As we worked to find potential partners for our property, it was important that they shared our mission of community and care to our neighbors. We’re pleased to have found that with this agreement, which will fill a critical need for so many with this facility.” Read full story

Merck and Eisai Provide Update on Phase 3 Trials of KEYTRUDA® (pembrolizumab) Plus LENVIMA® (lenvatinib) In Certain Patients With Advanced Melanoma (LEAP-003) and Metastatic Colorectal Cancer (LEAP-017)
Merck and Eisai today provided updates on two Phase 3 trials, LEAP-003 and LEAP-017 investigating KEYTRUDA, Merck’s anti-PD-1 therapy, plus LENVIMA, the orally available multiple receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor discovered by Eisai. LEAP-003: Merck and Eisai are discontinuing the Phase 3 LEAP-003 trial evaluating KEYTRUDA plus LENVIMA for the first-line treatment of adults with unresectable or metastatic melanoma. Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) announced its collaboration with Cyversity, a nonprofit association dedicated to the academic and professional success of minority cybersecurity students and professionals, to create a mentorship and training program designed to sponsor the next generation of diverse security leaders through a combination of education, experience and networking.
