Disciples Women will meet this Thursday, June 12, at 10:00 a.m., in the Parlor. This meeting will include the installation of officers for the 2025-2026 year. The service project will support PATH (Partners Against Trafficking Humans.) If you would like to support this mission, please make your monetary donation or check to Disciples Women by June 12 noting PATH on your gift.

Disciples Men will meet Tuesday, June 17, at 6:00 p.m. in Grace Hall. All men are welcome to join us for an evening of food and fellowship. The guest speaker will be Kenny Stephens, Director of Parks and Recreation for North Little Rock. Congratulations to Taylor Crowly and Grant Morgan who were married by Minister Kristen Beach on June 7, 2025, at Jamestown Ranch in Greenbrier, Arkansas. The proud parents are Stephanie (Crowly) and James Moreland; brother, Aaron Cole; Uncle Jason Crowly; and grandparents, Jimmy and Susan Crowly. May God bless this marriage for years to come.

Killing Church Softly: Generational and Identity Formation

This video is very eye opening on how we as an intergenerational society/church have evolved as a church and in some cases are killing church softly by becoming monogenerational. Rev. Dr. Santos gives a great history lesson of how generations have evolved - baby boomers to millennials - and how this has caused a separation from church.

Rev. Dr. Santos states a generation is defined as changing every 18 to 22 years and during this time we see a cycle of revolution in Christianity in how it is perceived. Baby boomers had parents who went to church every Sunday, gave their time as volunteers, and were seen as moral humans. The actual Baby Boomers also went to church every Sunday which caused the services to be overcrowded. This was the beginning of two services/dividing the congregation. This included the formation of separate ministries for children, youth and college ages – therefore dividing the congregation – known as monogenerational. Baby Boomers became adults as women’s rights and careers were taking off, which led to having latch-key kids known as the Gen X generation. This generation saw the introduction of mega churches with separate services for grown-ups and children. Next came the millennials who have grown up with the Internet, mobile screens and a multi-cultural society that has caused them to not have an identity (one day they dress preppy, the next gothic) and the feeling of not belonging. This group went to children’s church, youth ministry, college ministry – then as they become adults they do not go back to church because they do not have a sense of belonging. They did not participate in the same practices of the “adult” church, and now feel lost as Rev. Dr. Santos explains.

It is fascinating to hear him give this history lesson of sorts and how we have killed church softly as a society and I encourage you to listen. How can we keep church intergenerational and alive?
