Dear Members of Park Hill Christian,
As we gather together in worship and fellowship, I am writing to you full of gratitude for the vibrant life of our church family and everything we can do in the name of Christ. Your faithfulness in prayer, service, and generosity is a testimony to God's goodness. It is in this spirit of unity that I want to reflect with you on the biblical practice of tithing—a cornerstone of stewardship that draws us closer to God's heart and sustains His work in our church.
In the pages of Scripture, tithing is not presented as an optional burden but as a joyful response to God's abundant provision. From the days of Abraham, who gave a tenth of his spoils to Melchizedek as an act of worship (Genesis 14:20), to the Mosaic Law that commanded Israel to bring "the full tithe into the storehouse" so that the Lord might "pour down for you a blessing" (Malachi 3:10), we see tithing as a sacred rhythm of giving back to God what is already His. Jesus Himself affirmed this principle, instructing the Pharisees to practice justice, mercy, and faithfulness without neglecting "the tithe" (Matthew 23:23). These passages remind us that tithing is more than a transaction; it is an expression of trust, gratitude, and love of God.
Why does tithing matter so profoundly in our lives today? First, it cultivates a heart of gratitude. In a world that often measures worth by accumulation, tithing reorients us toward the Giver of all good things. When we prioritize giving the firstfruits of our income—typically 10%—we declare that God is our true Provider, echoing the words of Psalm 24:1: "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof." This act breaks the grip of materialism and frees us to live with open hands, ready to receive His even greater blessings.
Second, tithing fuels the mission of the church. Your faithful giving supports the preaching of the Gospel (utilities, salary, and taxes), the nurturing of our children's ministries (Church's future), and outreach to our community (Food Pantry).
I encourage you to prayerfully consider your intent to give on November 9th.
