Putnam Classic Wows the Crowd
Putnam County’s first-ever bodybuilding competition was a big hit with the large crowd of spectators that watched as ten competitors from Florida and Georgia vied for medals and trophies in the Men’s and Women’s Division.

Patricia Wells took top honors in the Women’s Division at the Putnam Classic Bodybuilding Competition. Patricia, who is from Woodstock, Georgia, is an Iron-man Triathlete and runner and recently returned from a teaching assignment in American Samoa. Commenting on her win, Patricia said, “I thoroughly enjoyed participating in Putnam Classic. Everyone was helpful and it was fun to see the community come together for such a great cause. I love squat racks and I was glad PHFC got theirs. I hope the Fitness Center does more athletic events like this in the future.”

The Overall Men’s Division was won by Nathaniel Miller, Jr. Nathaniel, a student at St. Johns River State College, lives in Pomona Park. He believes that with determination, self-motivation and dedication, anything in life is possible.

The Putnam Classic drew a crowd of more than sixty spectators many of whom had never witnessed a bodybuilding competition before. Carole Martin said, “I came to this event just to support PHFC; however, I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. I will be sure to attend next year and hope to see more contestants!”

Parking Lot Renovation Underway
Putnam Health & Fitness Center has started the much-needed renovation of the parking lot. PHFC was awarded a grant from Clay Electric Cooperative Foundation in March.

This week, the first of several loads of millings (recycled asphalt) were delivered. The labor and equipment needed to spread and level the millings is being provided by Rob Jones and Marty Tobin.

We appreciate your patience as we make the parking lot safer for all our members.

We Need a Dryer
Putnam Health & Fitness Center is trying to be as green as possible. We’ve been recycling all plastic containers for several years.

Recently, we started using terrycloth hand towels instead of paper towels for members to clean equipment after use. The hand towels are offered free of charge.

Through the generosity of Dave and Jane Grove, we have a washing machine to enable us to continue this service at minimal operating expense. Now, we’re looking for someone prepared to donate a dryer to complete our next step in ‘going green.’

If you have a dryer or know of someone with a dryer to donate, please contact PHFC at 386-649-8785.
Community Service Project for July
During the month of July, Putnam Health & Fitness Center is having its 6 th annual fundraiser to benefit organizations providing medical facilities and adoption services for abandoned pets.

This year, PHFC’s efforts benefit ARK Animal Rescue , which has their fosters at the Crescent City Kennel at 1952 S US HWY 17, Crescent City. PHFC’s previous fundraisers helped the Humane Society of Northeast Florida and PAWS.

Beginning July 2 nd , there will be a shopping cart at the front door for the collection of dog and cat food, lightly used collars, bowls, blankets, pillows, cat litter, etc. If you are uncertain about what you can donate and what you can’t, please call 386-649-8785. We will also be collecting monetary donations.
People have their own reasons for donating to a fundraiser. What motivates one person might not motivate another. When the recipients are starving, sick or homeless four-legged creatures, this seems to motivate everyone to make a difference. Animals have an infinite ability to forgive, to love, to know somehow exactly what to do at any given moment, causing humans to plunge deep into ourselves to find our hidden reserves of goodness.
