Each chapter will make a donation to their community YMCAs through PHTA's Step Into Swim Initiative. Step Into Swim will match our donations which will be used to fund swimming lesson scholarships for kids and adults.

Thank you to our executive director, Susan Kregar, her husband, James, and sidekick, Dawn Vigil, for making these events happen. It's a lot of work and they managed to pull off two successful events two weeks apart.

We have surpassed the $10,000 mark of our $60,000 goal to launch our Let's Pool Together Arizona website and the ability to hire lobbyists to help us educate lawmakers about the positive role pools play in water conservation.

Board members from the Southern Arizona Chapter met with City Council member Kevin Dahl and his chief of staff and Councilmember, Paul Cunningham's chief of staff on October 25th to dispel myths about pool water evaporation and usage and discuss new pool technology that helps conserve water. Individual meetings will be scheduled with council members and Mayor Regina Romero who were unable to attend.

To continue our efforts, we still need your help! Please make a one-time or monthly donation to the cause. Your donations will remain in Arizona.

Arizona Registrar of Contractors Update

Susan Kregar, our executive director, attended the first meeting of the relaunched Arizona Registrar of Contractors Industry Advisory Council to represent PHTA.

The ROC expects the new Workmanship Standards book will be published in six months. The pool industry is on the list of industries being updated. If you want to provide your input, please Kevin Alber, Caribbean Pools, and vice president of the Central Arizona Chapter or Martin Lopez as they are leading the process for the chapters.

Monthly ROC FYI: 32-1158.01. Swimming pool; spa; construction contracts

Reminder -- Chapter Email Change

Construction Career Days

The Central Arizona Chapter once again participated in the event that was held November 1-2, 2023 at Arizona National Guard in Phoenix.

Thank you to Kevin Alber, Scott Bushey, Ian Hanley (pictured to the left) for making sure we had a presence at the event

More than 4500 students from schools all over Arizona, some as far as 300 miles, made the trip to attend this terrific event to learn about a career in construction.

Scott noted, "There are currently 200,000 open positions in construction. For every one person going in to construction, there are 14 people leaving. We need labor. The good news is there are a lot of kids that we talked to who wanted to get into the trades."

PHTA can help you attract those kids!! This winter we will create a list of PHTA members' available jobs and get that information to the Construction Sciences instructors throughout the state.

Stay tuned for more Arizona workforce development ideas!
