A Successful Embedded World for PICMG Members and Standards
Embedded World 2017 was once again a great success for PICMG members. The theme of this year’s conference was “Securely Connecting the Embedded World,” and focused on two main areas- “Internet of Things” and “Security & Safety.” These themes align with many of the solutions presented by PICMG members; they are areas where PICMG has an opportunity to develop new standards and/or develop new design guides. Fifty PICMG members exhibited, and over 120 companies exhibited products that comply with PICMG specifications.
COM Express continues to thrive, and several early COM Express Rev. 3 products were on display. This exciting new standard is expected to be ratified by the end of March. Early adoption of the Type 7 connector, with up to four 10G Ethernet interfaces and additional PCI Express lanes, is underway and will address many market needs. CompactPCI Serial also continues to grow and gain acceptance— the upcoming release of CompactPCI Serial for Space will offer more opportunities for harsh environment applications.
We are successful in addressing market needs with new standards and guidelines when we have your active participation. Next year, we plan to expand our presence with a PICMG sponsored-event. We hope you will be interested in contributing to our IIoT and security initiatives or planning for next year’s Embedded World.
Please contact me or any of the officers to let us know how you would like to get involved.
We appreciate all your support and feedback.
