Ciao, Gian Piero Food Matter: Thanksgiving.... No question - my favorite holiday dinner! I am not a fan of Turkey, but on that day, it is almost required in every family's home. It's a tradition that embraces Italians, Spanish, American and anybody who lives in this land and walks in a grocery store.. knows, understands and appreciates a whole roasted Tom Turkey with whatever trimmings it comes with! Just like every other family, in mine we take turns to host the event, but for some strange reason, I always do the cooking... Benny provides the wine and entertainment... Walter dessert and company!
I, like hundreds of other cooks, enjoy the time spent in front of the stove, from the shopping list, to the last sprig of rosemary to decorate the turkey, and in between?... Mimosa, Sauvignon blanc used to deglaze the turkey pan for the gravy.. All accompanied by a simple cheese platter or breakfast.. normally we have a good brunch late morning, skip lunch and go straight to dinner, guests start arriving around 3 pm, dinner served at 5pm..
However, three years ago, we started Turkey Dinner To Go, it changed the schedule a little, but the results were worth it. The idea was to provide customers who live close by in the neighborhood, a professionally cooked meal, including Turkey, vegetable sides, mashed potatoes, soup, gravy, stuffing and dessert - designed to feed 10 ppl.. and to be picked up the morning of Thanksgiving or delivered if close by for a generous price. It worked so well, that we did the same thing the next year, and so decided to continue the tradition and share it with customers of the new restaurant in Fairfax.
