Thank you to our partners Diasporal Rhythms, Sola Contemporary, C.A.I Designs, Yin Society, and Norman Teague Design for assisting in making this a memorable first-time Chicago event. The Pigment booth was a hub of activity and the most comfortable spot in th house. And a special shout out to the wonderful artists and galleries we met from across the country. You make our culture richer and more diverse, and that’s a good thing. We look forward to connecting with you in the future.

STILL TIME TO APPLY | THE CSE RICHARD HUNT AWARD

Sculptor Richard Hunt

There is still time to apply for Chicago Sculpture Exhibit’s (CSE) Richard Hunt Award, but the deadline is approaching. Renewed in partnership with the Richard Hunt Legacy Foundation, the award honors the internationally heralded Chicago native by supporting the next generation of public sculptors.

CSE is offering $10,000 to an emerging or mid-career sculptor to create a new work for a prominent outdoor location in Chicago. Eighty percent of the funds are provided up front for planning and creation, and the remaining 20 percent is released upon installation. Funds may cover materials, studio rent, and the artist's time. CSE will assist with on-site installation and mounting costs, provide professional documentation of the finished work, and offer mentoring as requested.

The sculpture will remain on view for two years, so it must withstand Chicago's climate. After 24 months, the work returns to the artist as sole owner.

WHY MAGAZINES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER

A profile of Jane Carpenter-Rock of the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) is featured in Issue VI of the Pigment Magazine.

In a recent episode of the influential podcast Design Matters, host Debbie Millman interviewed Françoise Mouly, longtime art editor of the venerable art center New Yorker Magazine. During their conversation they spoke about why print endures and why art was at the center of the publication. “Print is a devotion of resources,” says Mouly. “As we move towards more and more digital media … you don't need less print you need more print.” We say amen to that.
