SENAITE Deployment Marks Key Milestone for the Marshall Islands Ministry of Health and Human Services’ Data Modernization Efforts

Majuro, Marshall Islands - SENAITE, an open-source Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), successfully went live in Majuro on May 4, 2026, marking a significant milestone in strengthening laboratory data management and public health infrastructure for the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Ministry of Health and Human Services (MOHHS). The successful rollout was extended to Ebeye the following week, further expanding laboratory information management capabilities across the RMI. This implementation is part of a broader regional strategy to strengthen U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPI) Laboratory Data Exchange (LDX) systems and capacities supported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Pacific Islands Health Officers’ Association (PIHOA) in partnership with the USAPI health agencies and the Global Scientific Solutions for Health (GSSHealth). 

The implementation of SENAITE is expected to enhance laboratory efficiency, improve data accuracy, and support timely reporting and decision-making across clinical and public health services. By digitizing laboratory workflows, the system enables streamlined sample tracking, standardized reporting, and improved integration of laboratory data into national systems, laying the groundwork for robust laboratory data exchange and more effective disease surveillance.

The rapid deployment was made possible through strong collaboration between the teams at the Majuro and Ebeye laboratories; the RMI MOHHS’ Data Modernization Initiative (DMI) team; GSSHealth; and the SENAITE vendor, Beyond Essential Systems (BES). Following the issuance of a Request for Proposals (RFP) in December 2025, partners worked closely through an accelerated timeline that included requirements gathering, system configuration, and user training, culminating in a successful go-live within just a few months.
