Each year, PILI selects one Intern and one Fellow to serve a 2-year term on PILI's Board of Directors.
Pilar Mendez is a second-year law student at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. She was an Intern at the Roger Baldwin Foundation of the ACLU of Illinois.
Irene Hickey Sullivan is a first-year associate at Kirkland & Ellis. She recently graduated from the University of Chicago Law School and completed her PILI Graduate Fellowship at Chicago Volunteer Legal Services last summer.
In 2017, low-income, rural residents received inadequate or no professional help for 86 percent of their civil legal problems. This article discusses some strategies to help increase legal services in rural areas.
