Israel Songfest August 12

Bring your singing voice to the JCCMW Songs of Israel Event. Beth Styles, award-winning composer, producer, and artist [LEFT] will lead the annual Summer Kumzitz, an unforgettable evening of Israeli music and community.

A Note on Summer Services

We encourage you to join us at the Pelham Jewish Center for Shabbat services during these summer weekends when many people are away.

Shabbat Services:

Friday evenings at 6:00 PM;

Saturday mornings at 9:30 AM (followed by Kiddush lunch)

Whether you are a regular or it’s been a while since your last visit, we look forward to welcoming Shabbat together with you!

This Month in Jewish History

Regina Jonas, born in Berlin August 3, 1903, became the first-ever female rabbi when she was ordained by the Liberal Rabbis’ Association of Offenbach in 1935. After ordination, Jonas worked in a small community of German Jews until she was ordered by the Nazis into forced labor in a factory. On November 6, 1942 Jonas was deported to Theresienstadt, where she worked with psychologist Viktor Frankl meeting arriving trains at the station to help people cope with shock and disorientation. A hand-written list of 24 of her lectures entitled ”Lectures of the One and Only Woman Rabbi” can be found in the archives of Theresienstadt. Rabbi Jonas was deported to Auschwitz where she died at age 42 in 1944.

PJC Library News

The Library is open.

New books can be found on the mantle. To check out a book, write your name and the date on the card in the back of the book and leave the card in the office upstairs.

Return all borrowed books to the blue bin on the window ledge in the library. Please don't shelve returned books!
