The PJC Book Group: "Stranger in the Desert" | |

The next meeting of the PJC Book Group will be Sunday, February 25 at 11:00 am for a book signing and discussion of Stranger in the Desert with author Jordan Salama.
Inspired by family lore, a young writer embarks on an epic quest through the Argentine Andes in search of a heritage spanning hemispheres and centuries, from the Jewish Levant to turn-of-the-century trade routes in South America.

Our next First Friday Dinner will be on Friday, March 1st. Candle lighting and food for children will be available beginning at 5:30 pm. Shabbat services begin at 6:00 pm and dinner will be served immediately following services at approximately 7:00pm.

The PJC Celebrates Purim! | |

The PJC Purim Carnival will be held on Thursday, March 21 4:00-6:00 pm. All children and their parents are welcome!
The Pelham Jewish Center will celebrate Purim with the Megillah reading on Saturday, March 23, starting with Havdalah at 7:45 PM. Jenny Labendz returns with her unique, spirited version of the Megillah reading, interspersed with mini spiels by congregants. Come in costume if you wish, bring friends, enjoy pizza and drink.If you are interested in participating or for more information, please contact Jeremy Schulman.
We will also be distributing Mishloach Manot gifts and welcome sponsorships to help fund this generous tradition. If you can volunteer to pack or deliver, we welcome the help!

A History of Zionist Ideas will explore the history of Zionist thought, beginning with the early writings of Herzl and tracing the development of Zionist ideas through to the present day. Classes have begun and are held Tuesdays from 7:30 - 9:00 pm.
Weekly Lunch and Learns have resumed via Zoom on Wednesday at 12 pm, with topics varying based on the interests of the group.

Online Course - Learn Shabbat Prayers for Adults | |

Gain comfort and fluency reading Shabbat prayers in Hebrew in this six-session online course from the Union for Reform Judaism. Explore the meaning of the prayers, learn key Hebrew prayer vocabulary, and hear common prayer melodies. Tuition is $150.
Participants should be familiar with the sounds and shapes of the Hebrew aleph bet and be able to slowly sound out Hebrew words. For adults wishing to learn Hebrew, a separate ten-session online course is also offered for $250.

Social Action - Welcome Corps Refugee Program | |

PJC Members have formed a group to sponsor and support a refugee, participating in a new federal program called Welcome Corps in partnership with HIAS and Hearts and Homes for Refugees. As sponsors, we are helping Bella Nyangabire, a woman from the Democratic Republic of Congo, with all aspects of resettlement, including housing, employment, learning English, education, health care, and legal assistance.
SEEKING VOLUNTEERS!
The PJC Refugee Resettlement Group is seeking additional volunteers to assist with Bella's path to self-sufficiency. Among other things, we need drivers, English/ESOL teachers, shoppers, local guides, and housing/home setup people. Please email Matt Marcus or Rhonda Singer with an indication of your interest area.
Tax-deductible donations are still welcomed, both to support Bella and possibly other refugees in the future. If you would like to contribute, please visit our GoFundMe page. Every dollar will be used to meet basic needs.
