This Month in Jewish History

Ariel “Arik” Sharon, former Israeli Prime Minister and retired Major-General, was born on February 26, 1928. After a political career as a staunch man of the right and one of the "fathers" of the settlement movement, he initiated a plan to unilaterally disengage from Gaza on the grounds that its continuing occupation threatened Israeli security and democracy. But before Sharon could put into action his ultimate vision of two states, he was sidelined by a 2006 stroke that left him in a coma until his death in 2014.
