Our Newest Board Member!

The PJC Board is thrilled to welcome Abilgail Charney as its first-ever Junior Board Associate!

Abbey will participate in Board meetings through June 2027 as a non-voting observer to provide a voice for PJC teens. An 8th grader at Rye Country Day School, and a recent bat-mitzvah, Abbey loves playing sports, reading and writing, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.

“I intend to use my position on the PJC board as a way to foster community outreach and help with social media,” Abbey writes.

We are excited about this new position in our PJC organization, and we hope it will become an opportunity for our young people to play a greater leadership role on an ongoing basis.

Welcome, Abbey!!!

This Month in Jewish History

On Oct. 27, 1978, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin were jointly awarded the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating an historic peace framework between their nations. In what now seems a distant and more optimistic era, the two leaders, known for their hard-line views, came together in Camp David, MD in a meeting facilitated by then-U.S. President Jimmy Carter. (see photo) to work out an agreement that led directly to the March 26, 1979, Egypt–Israel Peace Treaty—the first peace treaty between Israel and an Arab state.
