This Month in Jewish History

Prime Minister Menachim Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on October 27, 1978, in recognition of their initiation of a peace process that began with the Camp David Accords overseen by President Jimmy Carter (see photo) and led to the 1979 Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty. It was the first peace agreement Israel had signed with any Arab country."No more wars, no more bloodshed," Begin told Sadat at Camp David. "Peace unto you. Shalom, Salaam, forever."
