PLAYERS DRIVEN TO WIN AT THE MUSKOKA MAZDA MAJOR
HUNTSVILLE ON (July 16 & 17, 2017) - There is no better feeling than journeying north into Muskoka for two days of competitive golf, especially at a course where each hole presents an opportunity to be caught off guard by the natural beauty, stunning views and hard granite outcroppings. It invigorates, motivates, and drives players to become a champion. This week’s Tour stop, The Mazda Muskoka Major, would be played at Grandview Golf Club, co-designed by PGA Tour veteran Mark O’Meara (1998 Masters and British Open champion) and renowned course architect Brit Stenson. The course is aptly named as, from the moment you arrive, it exudes natural grandness.
Day one, players were greeted with overcast and wet conditions, making this already challenging test of golf even more challenging. B & C Flights did not have mother nature on their side and, due to heavy rains, they would only record 9-hole scores on day one. Day two, however, would blanket the players with much-needed sunshine, warmer temperatures and sunny skies.
Champ Flight would see a first time winner in Jordan Shanks, recording a two day 84/79 (163). Hot on his heels was Robert Sterling, posting a smooth 82/82 (164) and Tour sensation Mike Hubbs claiming third spot with 80/88 (168)
In the A Flight, Derek Peters (former B Flight player) would find the podium after a playoff, shooting rounds of 80/84 (164) while Hal Kirby would settle for runner up, posting 83/81 (164). Tour veteran Frank Nirta would secure third place after card matching 89/78(167).
The B Flight was won by Marc Desgroseilliers, who recorded a rain-shortened score of 34/81 (115). Next up was all round nice guy David MacLachlan, shooting 42/84 (126) and one stoke back was Mark Matusiak with 43/84 (127).
Franco Aceto and his lucky hat would cross the finish line in first spot in the C Flight, posting 47/87 (134). Two strokes back was Rick Jones 47/89 (136) and Sandy Zajac ground out a third place finish with 45/94 (139).
Seniors' Flight saw David Johnson post rounds of 81/83 (164) to claim victory, closely followed by Mike Pepe with 90/81 (171). Tour nice guy Martin Gorman finding a first place net finish with Reed Ellis finishing in second net.
Women's Flight had first time winner Deborah Grieve post 44/95 (139) to earn the Major victory.
CONGRATULATIONS to Paolo Zulian for his HOLE-IN-ONE on the 7th Hole on day one!
