Dear Friends
On Chinese New Year 2018, Mr Zhao and our China team raided a small but horrific slaughterhouse in Hebei. Amongst the 30 dogs rescued was Sun Luin. Many had already had their fur removed, and carcasses were spread on the bloodied floor.
Sun Luin was left for dead as she did not move. Just as they were leaving, Mr Zhao caught sight of her beautiful eyes and scooped her up.
She was paralysed, and it took three months of care and hospitalisation before she even moved a muscle.
But then suddenly she started to walk. Intensely loyal to Mr Zhao, he placed her with our old dachshund, who sadly died last year, and she lived with him in the different base we have had.
Mr Zhao wanted her to find a loving home and started her paperwork in anticipation of a better life.
A friendly, small, neutered girl now seven years old. Fully vaccinated with an EU Pet Passport.
In the recent Hebei floods, she was too scared to even flee from her kennel when we were forced to open the cages. This tiny space had been her home.
It costs us £1500 to bring a dog from China to the UK. £400 for the airfare, £300 for travel from Paris to London and the remainder on the many tests and paperwork.
We ask adopters to chip in at least £600 and help us fundraise. Usually, we would ask for a deposit, but in Sun Luin's case, our lady who vets adopters took the new owner in good faith.
We were so happy she could fly and have a real home with love and cuddles.
She coped well on the flight and onward journey and is very healthy. Her only issue is sometimes she limps. Her paralysis had been previously caused by beating and nerve damage.
Unfortunately, Sun Luin's Hemel Hempstead adopter deemed her defective after just one day. The real reason is, like most people who contact us, they want a breed dog, a young dog, or a good-looking special dog.
With over 700 in our care, all dogs are important to us.
I am appealing to all of you today to share SUN LUIN's story and to help her find the home she deserves.
Please also buy one of our calendars so we can raise the funds we have spent and help more dogs and cats.
I feel heartbroken this has happened to her but comforted to know she is currently safe with a foster in Harrow, and all of you will join me to get Sun Luin the love she needs this Xmas.
More to come from my recent trip to China.
Thank you for being so supportive.
Julia and all the team
