Helping the Hurting and the Homeless in the Name of Jesus Christ!

The Columbus Rescue Mission - "Helping the Hurting and the Homeless in the name of Jesus Christ!"

Chaplain Dave Porter

Executive Director

Columbus Rescue Mission

As we view some of the memory photos our recognition of various people gives us great joy that the Lord allowed the Columbus Rescue Mission to get involved with their life at their time of need. We need an electronic method to jog our memory, but rest assured, God does not forget the time, clothing, meals, chapel services, and the Gospel message that have been invested in people we serve for all of eternity. We’ll take phone calls of men who were given a mattress on the dining room floor years ago, telling us of finding Jesus at that moment in time. There is a man staying at the park. Another man checked in due to his gambling. We are fighting the good fight.

We finished our second annual disc golf tournament and everyone had such a great time. The 20th annual golf tournament is fast approaching July 17, 2026, which is a tremendous help with the negative summer cash flow. As our air conditioners are running and our lawn mower is humming, please remember us striving to serve the hurting and the homeless in the Name of Jesus Christ.

As you invest in the Kingdom of God, financially, prayerfully, with food and clothing donations and all the other ways we at the Mission appreciate your support. Know that God NEVER forgets.

With My love,

Your servant,

Chaplain David Porter

GiftWise Now Available!

The Columbus Rescue Mission is only here to serve Jesus. We express our love of Jesus to the people we serve. Not only with the guests and the folks getting food and clothing, but with you our donors as well. I find myself helping take in a donation to find out that the donor is now widow or widower. My heart goes out to these people in their grieving.

This life ends and the world continues. We recognize this and the Mission desires to make your final directives legally defined. We have enlisted GiftWise that allows you to write your will without negative pressures going to a stranger but in the privacy of your own computer. Plus, you can easily revise your will.

We have noticed your generosity in the past and we are very grateful. Perhaps you will consider this type of donorship in helping the hurting and the homeless in the Name of Jesus during this process.

Building His legacy that lasts for eternity.

With my love,

Your servant,

Chaplain David Porter E.D.

The 2026 Columbus Rescue Mission Was a Huge Success!

The weather was gorgeous, the competitors were greatly talented and the burgers were delicious as the 2nd Annual Columbus Rescue Mission Disc Golf Tournament proved to be another successful blessing from the Lord at Pawnee Park on May 23rd. The winning team of the "Reverse Oreos" journeyed from Omaha to claim the title with a 18 basket total of 36. As was the case in 2025, no one collected the $1,000 Grand Prize for making a basket in one shot. Congratulations to Luke Cada (Associate Executive Director) for a job well done! We hope to see everyone at the 3rd annual event in 2027. Praise the Lord!

Why are you seeing so many requests for financial donations to the Columbus Rescue Mission? As most of you know, we do not receive any assistance from the federal government, state government or local government. We depend on the generosity of our donors and the grace of God to keep the mission operating smoothly. We have many bills that must be paid monthly. With prices going up on electricity, water, internet, etc. each month, we find ourselves in a budget situation that leaves us lagging throughout the year. We are praying that God puts it on the heart of our donors to continue with your donations on a regular basis. Thank you for your prayers and support. You will never know how much we appreciate all you do for us.

Karen Phillips - Columbus Rescue Mission Administrative Assistant and Volunteer Coordinator

Our Giving Garage and Sorting Shed are an integral part of the Gospel ministry at the Columbus Rescue Mission. Each year we have over 2,000 people come to the garage to receive free clothing that is brought to the mission by our incredible donors. It takes many man hours of sorting, hanging, and monitoring the garage. The ladies pictured above go above and beyond the call of duty by volunteering their time to make sure that the clothing ministry runs smoothly while focusing on God's grace and blessings.

Pictured in the above photo are: (Front Row) Sandra, Diana, Nancy, and Jean. (Back Row) Karen, Judy, Kathy, Donna, and Janet. (Not Pictured) Doris, Diana, Michelle, Jessica, and Rusty.

We are currently accepting financial donations, food, clothing and household goods at this time. WE DO NOT ACCEPT: ANY FURNITURE OR LARGE APPLIANCES, seasonal (holiday) decorations, broken picture frames, any books or tapes of a questionable nature, exercise equipment, toys, computers, or monitors. We DO accept all sizes of men's, women's, and children's clothing as well as shoes, coats, bedding, mittens, gloves, etc. Please refrain from packing used underwear in your bags of clothing that you bring to us. We can not accept these items due to health reasons.

We are still in need of volunteers to help us in the sorting shed and the giving garage. Our volunteers primarily help with the sorting of clothes and helping the shoppers during their visit to the mission. We are in need of volunteers Monday through Saturday from 1 PM until 4 PM. If you are interested in helping us out, please contact Karen Phillips at the Columbus Rescue Mission at 402-563-1096.

Major Progress on the addition to the Giving Grace Clothing Ministry Garage

The men on the construction crew have been working hard to complete the construction of the addition to the Giving Grace Clothing Garage. There are some photos posted below that show the progress that has been made in recent weeks. Thanks to our incredible donors and supporters, we will be able to open our new facility to the public in the very near future. God has blessed this ministry so that we can provide people with the used clothing that they need.

PRAISE THE LORD!!!

Our friends from the Genoa Grace Baptist Church visited us this week and donated food, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and a financial donation to the Columbus Rescue Mission. We truly appreciate all of our donors and their support of the mission. 2nd Corinthians 9:7-8 "For God loves a person who gives cheerfully. And God will provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others."

Proverbs 14:31 Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.

Prayer Time at the Columbus Rescue Mission

Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

The power of prayer is so amazing. It is the time when God wants to share with us. Prayer by the individual is powerful in its own right, but when "two or three are gathered" the time spent in prayer can be an experience that we will never forget for the rest of our earthly lives.

We would like to invite you to share with us in prayer at our monthly prayer meeting at the Columbus Rescue Mission in Columbus. The prayer meetings are held the last Thursday of each month at 10 AM. Our June meeting is scheduled for June 25th and our July prayer time is scheduled for July 30th. If you have any questions (or would like more information) please call Karen at 402-563-1096 Please consider joining our prayer with team!

As we are a 501 c 3, we accept no state or federal assistance. Please consider Him as you consider helping us.
