 Principal Meridians and Base Lines

"Gila and Salt River Meridian"

Throughout the United States several "Initial Points" were established as the primary Principal Meridian and Baseline starting points for the Public Land Survey System for that region.

The Gila and Salt River Base and Meridian initial point is located near Phoenix International Raceway in Phoenix, Arizona which is where I am based out of.

In one of the surveying classes that I teach at EVIT in Mesa, Arizona, the subject came up about the Initial Point. I showed the class the location on Google Maps from which you can barely make out the monument that was reestablished by the Arizona Professional Land Surveyors (APLS) in 2006. This location is referred to as Monument Mountain.

Here is some information on the monument:

Having a drone and the commercial license to fly in the federal airspace where the monument is located, my team (Bridget and Becky) and I went to the site and captured several high resolution images to further document this historic monument using the latest drone technology.

We also created a 360ยบ aerial panorama so that others can virtually take in the view from this location.
