May is Mental Health Awareness Month

As we celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month next month, it’s important to remember that self-care plays a pivotal role in our mental wellbeing. We reached out to our PMHP Staff to learn about their favorite self-care activities, and here’s what they shared:

We encourage you to create a list of your favorite self-care activities and turn them into a routine, not only this month, but throughout the year. 😊

Choose Your Own (Self-Care) Adventure

Which version of our PMHP logo are you gravitating towards for self-care today?

Let's create some art! Break out the paint, crayons, or even a pencil/pen and remember, that anything can be your canvas from a sheet of paper, a sticky note, or even the back of a receipt.

The ball's in your court! Kick around a soccer ball, shoot some hoops, or head to the batting cage this weekend with friends. If you're feeling more like a spectator, baseball season is back in full swing!

Time for a breath of fresh air! Spend a little time in nature whether it's planting flowers or tending to your garden. And if you don't have a green thumb, head out for a hike or walk around the neighborhood.

Yes, chef! Is there a new recipe you've been eager to try or a dessert you've been excited to bake? Now’s the time to grab your apron and start cooking. And invite family or friends over to make it a team effort.

Game on! Video games are the perfect escape today whether it's exploring the world of Minecraft or speeding around on Mario Kart. Or simply play solitaire on your phone.

Seas the day! Relax in the sun at one of the beautiful beaches in LA, Orange, or Ventura County to soak up some vitamin D. Dive into the waves or simply unwind on a blanket with a good book.

Catch it, Check it, Change it

Need some support with those unhelpful thoughts? Try the "Catch it, Check it, Change it" approach used in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that's demonstrated in the video below by PMHP Lead Community Mental Health Trainer, Chelsea Simms, LCSW.
